Who was the Allen outlet mall shooter? Here's what we know

Texas Carnage: Mass Shooting In Allen Texas + Vehicle Ramming Attack In Brownsville Texas

ALLEN TEXAS

Eight people were killed and seven wounded by a gunman dressed in black tactical gear who got out of his car at a Texas mall Saturday and opened fire in the parking lot — before being shot dead himself by a police officer at the scene, officials said. The deadly mass shooting unfolded at 3:36 p.m. at the Allen Premium Outlets — about 30 minutes north of Dallas — when a lone gunman got out of a vehicle and began firing, according to police and footage from the parking lot. An officer who was at the mall responding to an unrelated call heard the shots, ran toward the sound, and “engaged and neutralized the threat,” Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey told reporters at a press briefing. Six victims of the shooter were found dead at the scene, while nine others were transported to area hospitals for treatment, two of which later died from their wounds, Allen Fire Chief Jonathan Boyd said. Police did not give the ages of the victims but witnesses said children were among the casualties — and that they saw what looked like a cop or mall guard wounded on the ground. “I pray it wasn’t kids, but it looked like kids,” said Fontayne Payton, 35, a worker at an H&M store outside of which the bodies of several victims could be seen in video footage lying under sheets. BROWNSVILLE TEXAS

A driver plowed into a group outside a shelter that had been housing migrants in a Texas border town on Sunday, leaving seven people dead and several others injured, authorities say. Authorities in Brownsville, Texas say they got a call 8:30 am CT about a Land Rover that hit multiple people who were waiting at a bus stop across the street from the Ozanam Center, a non-profit homeless shelter that has been helping house migrants. The crash left seven dead and between four to six others injured, Martin Sandoval, a Brownsville police spokesperson, told CNN. Sandoval added that police believe those killed included migrants. It’s unclear whether the crash was intentional. CNN interviewed migrants staying at the center in December. At the time, the center’s director told CNN that migrants from all over the world were beginning to stay at the shelter and they were seeing an uptick in stays. The shelter is equipped to house and feed 200 people, according to its website. Witnesses at the scene detained the driver until officers arrived, Sandoval said during a Sunday news conference. He said the driver of the vehicle received medical care and has been arrested on a reckless driving charge. “More than likely” there will be other charges added, Sandoval said. Police have not released the name of the driver, but say it was a Hispanic man, Sandoval told CNN. Brownsville police are investigating with the help of Border Patrol, he added. Sandoval said authorities are still investigating whether the crash was intentional or accidental. He said witnesses described seeing the car “lose control.” The shelter has been housing immigrants while they wait for permanent housing, he said. Brownsville, Texas is located on the southern tip of Texas, just across the Rio Grande River. The town’s population is nearly 95% Hispanic or Latino, according to the 2022 census. The crash happened just days before a Trump-era immigration restriction dubbed Title 42 is set to expire. Officials have predicted a rise in immigration in coming weeks when the restrictions are lifted Thursday. Source

Sixth Spring Explosion: Pro Putin Blogger Zakhar Prilepin Severally Injured In Car Bomb Attack.....

Car bomb in Russia wounds pro-war writer, kills driver

May 6 (Reuters) - A prominent Russian nationalist writer, Zakhar Prilepin, was wounded in a car bombing that killed his driver on Saturday and investigators said a detained suspect admitted acting on behalf of Ukraine. Russian officials immediately blamed the attack on Ukraine and the West. The state Investigative Committee said the writer's Audi Q7 was blown up in a village in Nizny Novgorod region, about 400 km (250 miles) east of Moscow, which it was treating as an act of terrorism. It said Prilepin had been taken to hospital. The committee released a photograph showing the white vehicle lying overturned on a track next to a wood, with a deep crater beside it and fragments of metal strewn nearby. The committee later issued a statement saying investigators were questioning a suspect identified as Alexander Permyakov. "The suspect was detained and, in the course of questioning, he provided testimony that he acted on the instructions of the Ukrainian special services," said the statement, read by a woman in uniform. The statement said he acknowledged detonating the bomb remotely and fled but was detained. State news agency TASS quoted security sources as saying the suspect was a "native of Ukraine" with a past conviction for robbery with violence. Interfax news agency quoted a source in the emergency services as saying Prilepin's condition was serious and doctors would operate on him. The novelist is an outspoken champion of Russia's war in Ukraine and has boasted of taking part in military combat there. He was the third prominent pro-war figure to be targeted by a bomb since Moscow's full-scale invasion of its neighbour in February 2022. Russia has blamed Ukraine for the deaths of journalist Darya Dugina and war blogger Vladlen Tatarsky in the two previous attacks, and Kyiv has denied involvement. Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak posted a cryptic comment on Twitter about Saturday's incident, appearing to suggest it was the result of Russian infighting. Source
