Ukrainian Officials: Russian Forces Attempting To 'Seize' Chernobyl Nuclear Facility
Fighting erupted inside the exclusion zone around the Chernobyl nuclear facility on Thursday after Russian forces attempted to take control of the shuttered power plant, according to Ukrainian officials.
Ukraine’s deputy interior minister, Anton Gerashchenko, said in a statement posted on Facebook that Ukrainian forces were “fighting hard” to protect the site and the radioactive waste stored there.
“If the invaders artillery hits and ruins/damages the collectors of nuclear waste, radioactive nuclear dust can can be spread over the territory of Ukraine, Belarus and the country of the EU!” Gerashchenko wrote.
Chernobyl, just south of the Ukraine-Belarus border, is the site of the worst nuclear disaster in history.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the fighting at Chernobyl in his own post to Twitter.
“Our defenders are giving their lives so that the tragedy of 1986 will not be repeated,” Zelenskyy said in a post on his official Twitter account Thursday. “This is a declaration of war against the whole of Europe.” Source

Four shot, one killed in mass shooting at protest march in Portland
Four people were shot and one was killed in a mass shooting at a Portland park where people had gathered to march in protest of the fatal police shooting of Amir Locke, according to local reports.
Police responded to reports of shots fired near Normandale Park just before 8 p.m. Saturday night — before demonstrators could even begin their march, which was scheduled to kick off at 8, according to event flyers posted on social media.
Two people have been taken into custody in connection to the incident, KGW8 reported. Several witnesses told Oregon Public Broadcasting they saw a man come out of a nearby home and confront a group of about 50 protesters before he fired into the crowd.
Five people — two men and three women — were transported to nearby hospitals in unknown conditions, police said in a statement.
The Oregon State Medical Examiners’ office will determine the identity and cause of death of the female victim. No other details on the shooting were immediately available. This is the latest in a wave of gun violence in the city, which has already seen 14 people killed in shootings this year, according to Oregon Live.
Locke, 22, was shot and killed by a Minneapolis police SWAT team member during a no-knock-warrant raid on his apartment on Feb. 4. The officer opened fire when Locke, who had been asleep on his couch, stood up holding his legally-owned handgun after SWAT busted through his front door. Source

It comes days after Prince Andrew, 62, agreed to settle Virginia Roberts's lawsuit accusing him of sex abuse after they met through Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
Roberts accused Brunel, 76, of procuring more than a thousand women and girls for Epstein to sleep with and he was awaiting trial in France for raping minors.
His death in an alleged hanging will fuel conspiracy theories around the Epstein affair after he also died in prison while awaiting trial in what authorities say was a hanging.
However video cameras were not running at the time he died in the cell he shared with another inmate.
Prosecutors in Paris confirmed Brunel was found hanging in his cell in La Santé, in the south of the capital city, in the early hours of Saturday morning. It is not known whether Brunel was sharing a cell or whether there was any CCTV footage inside.

Turns out the lasting image of the Freedom Convoy protest at Parliament Hill will not be bouncy castles but that of a woman with a walker being trampled by a police horse. The violence the Prime Minister has expressed concern about during the three-week protest in Ottawa didn’t unfold until Justin Trudeau’s Emergencies Act police army was sent in to disperse the crowd.

Has Putin finally sprung his 'false flag' operation? 'Car bomb' rocks Ukrainian separatist capital in 'assassination attempt' hours after mass EVACUATION of 700,000 civilians was announced amid blaring air raid sirens and dire warnings of attack by Kiev
An explosion has rocked the pro-Russian separatist capital Donetsk in eastern Ukraine in what appears to be the start of Putin's long-awaited false flag operation. A Russian invasion of the country is expected to follow.
Russian media claim the explosion was a car bomb which was intended to assassinate a top Russian separatist official - who was unhurt - and it came hours after Putin's allies in the breakaway regions announced they would evacuate 700,000 civilians over fears of an attack by Kiev.
The US and Western intelligence agencies have long been warning of a Russian 'false flag' operation that could involve a staged attack on Putin's separatist allies to provide a pretest for the Kemlin to send its forces massed on the border into Ukraine. The bomb exploded late Friday near the headquarters of the pro-Russian Donetsk People's Republic, destroying a Soviet-era UAZ jeep that belonged to Denis Sinenkov, head of regional security. He was not reported to be injured.
Russian state media were the first to report on the explosion and picture the bomb site, with a notorious Russian 'journalist' - thought to be a state propagandist - among the first to arrive on the scene.
If Western warnings of a false flag prove correct, it would mean Putin's forces blew up the car themselves in order to claim that Ukraine's eastern region - and ethnic Russians living it in - are under threat of attack. That threat would then be used to justify Russian troops and tanks rolling across the border on a 'protection' mission.
Just an hour before the blast, the pro-Russian heads of the People's Republic of Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republic ordered women, children and the elderly to evacuate immediately ahead of what they claimed would be a Ukrainian invasion. Kiev categorically denied any plans to attack.
President Vladimir Putin on Friday ordered the Russian government to house and feed people leaving two self-proclaimed east Ukrainian breakaway republics once they arrived in southern Russia.
He also ordered every person who arrived from Donbass to be given a payment of 10,000 roubles ($129).
Ukraine on Friday called on the international community to condemn what it said were provocations by Russia in separatist-held eastern Ukrainian areas, saying that Moscow would only escalate the situation further if it did not.
'...we are watching the Russian Federation launch a campaign to spread mass disinformation, increase shelling of Ukrainian positions and civilian infrastructure with weapons banned by the Minsk agreements, and escalate the security situation,' the foreign ministry's spokesman said in a statement.
'Lack of a proper reaction or a neutral position will only fuel the escalation of the situation by Russia.'
There are now thought to be up to 190,000 Russian soldiers backed by tanks, artillery, helicopters, fighter jets and missile batteries within reaching distance of Ukraine as Putin prepares to personally oversee nuclear missile drills that will take place tomorrow. Source

Nepal police fire tear gas as protesters rally against US grant
The US is providing a $500m grant for the construction of power transmission lines and a road improvement project, but detractors say the funds come with unacceptable conditions.
Police used tear gas and water cannon to disperse protesters objecting to a United States-funded infrastructure programme in Nepal, officials have said.
The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a US government aid agency, agreed in 2017 to provide $500m in grants to fund an electricity transmission line and road improvement project in Nepal. The proposal was scheduled to be presented in Parliament for approval, but the debate was postponed because of disagreements among political parties.
There has been growing opposition to the grant, mainly led by Communist parties, who say the grant comes with conditions that are not acceptable.
Two of the Communist parties are part of the coalition government. They claim the conditions in the grant agreement will override Nepal’s laws and damage the country’s sovereignty. They say it is part of Washington’s Indo-Pacific strategy, which has military components that could bring US soldiers to Nepal. US officials have spoken to Nepalese leaders recently to assure that the grant concerns only Nepal’s development.
A few hundred protesters managed to push through the thick lines of riot police, who used bamboo batons and fired tear gas.
Police also used water cannon on the protesters, who pelted them with stones. Roads leading to the parliament buildings were blocked for hours because of the clashes. A general strike called by the protesters also shut down schools and disrupted transport in the country.
Police in Kathmandu detained dozens of protesters who tried to block traffic and attempted to set a taxi on fire.
Officials said they used minimum force to disperse about 3,000 protesters near parliament in Kathmandu. Source

Autoerotic activity sometimes consists of the practice of self-induced cerebral anoxia, usually by hanging, strangulation, or suffocation during masturbation. Autoerotic asphyxiation and accidental ligature strangulation by a partner are well-known phenomena described in medical literature, particularly in forensic medicine reports (1–5). This is a very ancient behavior. In French classical literature, Jean Giono describes traditional autoerotic asphyxiation with a leather cowl among mountain people in the 19th century (6). The sexual asphyxia is almost exclusively created by men; only a few reports exist concerning women. Male subjects tend to create a complex apparatus and environment, whereas female subjects are usually simply found naked with only a ligature around the neck (7).
This case report supports the creation of complex sexual scenes by male subjects. In this case, consideration of the death scene is important in an understanding of the motivation and behavior of the young decedent.
CASE REPORT
In northern France, a young male student, aged 21, was found dead one morning in May of 1999. The victim lived with his grandmother, who had discovered him dead in the living room. The grandmother had last seen the victim alive the previous day at 9 pm. The victim had known he was alone on the ground floor because his grandmother had gone to sleep. The body was found hanging by a rope tied around the neck, sitting on the upper part of the divan. The divan was situated under a beam, to which the rope was fastened. The body was sitting in front of a mirror. He wore a jellaba and female underclothes (bra, panties, and sanitary towel with red coloring), and clothespins nipping the two nipples (Figs. 1 and 2). Chains and padlocks were present on the body (Fig. 3). There were no pornographic pictures close to the body. In a room near the living room, electrical devices (electrodes) were found. The noose was padded with a towel, which protected the skin of the neck from ridging.

During external examination, blood was discovered at the anal margin. Radiographs revealed a hat-peg, which was subsequently removed from the rectum (Figs. 4 and 5). This hat-peg had provoked rectal and anal bleeding.
Autopsy revealed ligature abrasions around the victim’s neck. Rope marks were located on the anterior part of the neck (Fig. 6). The groove was very faint. Facial petechial hemorrhages were present. Pulmonary edema was present in the lungs. There was no fracture of the hyoid bone or thyroid cartilage and no deep muscle bruises of the neck. No other significant autopsy findings were present. The cause of the death was attributed to asphyxia by hanging.
On the Sunday preceding the event, a TV movie about erotic asphyxiation by a sexual partner had been shown. The relationship between our case and that movie was not established, unlike many cases reported in the literature (8,9). There was no psychiatric background and no known previous suicidal behavior. Additionally, the victim had a normal heterosexual relationship with a 21-year-old girlfriend. He was reported to like risks and to have frequently engaged in extreme behavior (e.g., driving very fast, diving in deep water). The manner of death was finally considered to be an accident.

DISCUSSION
Asphyxophilia has been defined as the desire for a state of oxygen deficiency to elicit or enhance sexual excitement and orgasm (10). Forensic cases are numerous, and the literature contains some reports. Sexual asphyxiation is described in de Sade’s Justine, and other authors have described sexual perversion associated with hanging (11). The Eskimos have been known to perform sexual asphyxiation as a form of solitary or group activity (12). Jean Giono, a French novelist, described the practice of autoerotic asphyxiation in the 19th century among French mountain people, who used a leather cowl.
The basic mechanism of sexual asphyxias is the production of cerebral hypoxia, which in some men appears to produce hallucinations of an erotic nature. This hypoxia is most often achieved by constriction of the neck by a ligature (a rope, in the case reported here).
Bondage is common, sometimes involving elaborate and bizarre methods. Classically, the use of chains and padlocks is described. Anal self-stimulation with foreign bodies and self-observation with a mirror or camera are correlated with transvestism. Transvestism commonly involves a female apparatus (jellaba, sanitary towel, and panties in this case). Masochism is often seen, and rectal dilatation is sought by victims.
In our case, hanging was accidental and not suicidal. Examination of the autoerotic death scene showed a secluded location, where nobody could disturb the victim. He was in a classic position, with an incomplete hanging. Application of an electric current to the genitals is frequently described but was not the cause of death in this case. A vagal uneasiness was probably the starting point of a loss of consciousness. The vagal uneasiness may have been provoked by two phenomena: irritation of the vagus nerve by hanging and rectal dilatation by a foreign body (hat-peg). Asphyxia was secondary to the vagal uneasiness. All investigations—death scene, external examination, context, autopsy findings—resulted in a conclusion of accidental hanging provoking fatal autoerotic asphyxia.
This case is interesting because of the many characteristics frequently described only in autoerotic asphyxia. It associates transvestism, the use of electric current, sexually oriented bondage, anal self-stimulation with a foreign body, and masochism (clothespins). This behavior is encountered in people of culture and education, as was true of this young student in a scientific field.
People need to be informed about the risks of such activities and of the danger of being unable to stop the asphyxial process before loss of consciousness occurs.

Bob Saget’s Autopsy Raises Questions; One Doctor Says ‘Consistent With Taking Baseball Bat To Skull’
The autopsy of comedian Bob Saget after his sudden death at 65 has raised questions, with one doctor who has reviewed the results saying his injuries “appeared consistent with taking a baseball bat to the skull,” according to a new report.
Saget’s family summarized the findings of the autopsy after it was complete. “The authorities have determined that Bob passed from head trauma. They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep. No drugs or alcohol were involved,” the family said shortly after his January 9 death.But The Daily Mail reported on Monday that the autopsy report released Thursday “painted a grimmer picture about such injuries, noting that he fractured his skull in multiple places and sustained bleeding across both sides of his brain.”
“Health experts are now asking how thoroughly his death was investigated and what caused [sic] have caused Saget such a ‘significant blow to the head,’ which one doctor said appeared consistent with taking a baseball bat to the skull or falling 20 to 30 feet,” The Mail wrote.

France explosion: At least seven killed after blast and fire in Pyrénées town
Several people have died in southwestern France after an explosion and fire ripped through a residential street.
The powerful blast occurred on Sunday night in the town of Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque near the Spanish border, authorities said.
The explosion caused a fire in three small buildings on one of the Pyréneés town's main streets. The bodies of seven people -- including a baby and another child -- have so far been pulled from the rubble. One man was wounded after jumping from a second-storey floor to escape the flames, with at least thirty others suffering minor injuries.
Public prosecutor Jean-David Cavaillé told reporters that the number of victims is "provisional" and "may, unfortunately, change".
"There are one or two people [missing] and we need to know if they are alive," he added. The town hall said a number of local residents had been provided with accommodation after being evacuated by firefighters.
An investigation into "arson resulting in death" has been launched, Cavaille told a press conference on Monday.
But he added that it was "too early" to determine whether the cause of the explosion was "accidental or criminal".
French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said on Twitter that he was travelling to the scene.
"I give my full support to the State services mobilised and to the inhabitants," Darmanin said, "my thoughts are with the victims and their families." Source
Children Among at Least Seven Dead in South of France Explosion and Fire
An arson investigation has been opened into an explosion and fire that killed at least seven, including a child and an infant, in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque, France, on February 14, according to local media.
Footage posted by Raphael Campanozzi shows flames engulfing a building on Rue Arago, in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque. Campanozzi provided two videos, from the front and back of the building. He was not hurt in the incident but told Storyful: “I felt the blast since I live two blocks away.”
The Fire and Rescue Service of the Pyrenees-Orientales said on Facebook that local emergency services received a call following an explosion at a business, which set fire to the apartments above.

Super Bowl security: Safety and security at SoFi stadium amid LA's crime wave
Despite no credible security threats to this weekend’s Super Bowl LVI in the Los Angeles area, local and federal authorities have coordinated to tightly monitor activities inside and outside SoFi stadium to prevent any attacks — large or small — on what will be the region's largest event in some time, and the latest major event to take place amid the region's ongoing crime wave.
Sunday’s annual NFL championship game will require thousands of law enforcement personnel as fans and onlookers from around the world will flock to the Inglewood, California, venue to watch the Los Angeles Rams take on the Cincinnati Bengals. In addition to an increased local police presence, more than 500 Department of Homeland Security personnel will provide land, sea and air security along with other federal agencies. The nature of the Super Bowl makes the event a target for attacks and criminal threats, Pete Eliadis, president of Intelligence Consulting Partners, told Fox News Digital.
Even instances that aren’t criminal can impact the festivities, he said, citing Super Bowl XLVII in 2013 when the game was stopped for more than 30 minutes following a power outage during play between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
"You saw the impact that that had. Imagine a terrorist event occurring," said Eliadis, who has worked in security operations for Super Bowls and NFL playoff games.
On Tuesday, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who grew up in the Los Angeles area, said his agency will focus on public safety, including the prevention of human trafficking.

Super Bowl LVI is a 'potentially attractive target' for terrorism but there is no sign of any specific, credible threat, officials say
(CNN)Law enforcement is on high alert ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl and remains concerned about the sustained interest that international and domestic terrorists, as well as lone offenders have in targeting mass gatherings, according to a joint threat assessment obtained by CNN.
But the multiple federal, state and local agencies that contributed to the threat assessment, found "no information to indicate a specific, credible threat to or associated with" the event at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
"Super Bowl LVI is a potentially attractive target due to the high concentration of attendees and significant media attention the event will receive," the assessment says of the international terrorism threat.
ISIS and other foreign terrorist organizations routinely promote attacks in Europe and the United States in their online messaging videos and publications, according to the report.
The assessment, dated February 3, comes as the Department of Homeland Security updated its national public terrorism bulletin, warning that the spread of conspiracy theories and disinformation is fueling the "heightened threat" environment in the US.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Tuesday that there is no specific, credible threat to the Super Bowl."We have no information of a specific, credible threat against this Super Bowl. What this is all about is planning and preparation to prevent any incident from occurring," he said.
Because the Super Bowl takes place in different locations each year, security plans and perimeters change with each game.
"SoFi campus is just such a massive campus," Cathy Lanier, NFL chief security officer, said. "Of all the Super Bowls that I've worked, the biggest challenge here, really, is just the enormity of this event, and that goes along with the enormity of the stadium and the stadium campus."
"The Super Bowl, or any mass gathering event, remains an attractive target for hackers, criminals, and terrorists," Brian Harrell, former assistant secretary for infrastructure protection at DHS, told CNN, noting that security coordination "comes at an important time given the significant amount of violence we have seen recently in the streets of America."
Homegrown violent extremists and unaffiliated lone offenders are a "particular concern," the assessment says, due to their ability to remain undetected until operational, willingness to attack civilians and soft targets, and ability to inflict significant casualties with minimal specialized knowledge, access or training.
