At least 19 are killed as people trapped in blazing tower block 'jump to their death' and some cling to wires outside their windows as they wait to be rescued from Bangladesh inferno
Desperate workers jumped to their deaths as a huge fire tore through a Dhaka office block today, killing at least 19 people and trapping others in the latest major inferno to hit the Bangladesh capital. Rescue workers warned the death toll could rise sharply as fire fighters recovered charred bodies from the complex where an unknown number of office workers were engulfed by intense smoke and flames. At least six people died after jumping from the 22-floor building, officials said. At least 73 people were injured and being treated in hospitals across Dhaka. One video posted on social media shows a man tumbling from a cable as he and several others try to scale down the exterior of the building. Source

Video of a father and son illegally killing a mother bear and her two cubs in Alaska was released this week, two months after the men were sentenced for the act. The video, published to YouTube by the Humane Society of the United States, shows footage from a camera set up to film the bears as part of a wildlife study. "They'll never be able to link it to us," a man identified as the son, Owen Renner, says in a clip. The footage, filmed in April 2018, was released by the Alaska Department of Public Safety following a public records request by the Humane Society, according to Alaska's KTUU-TV. The video shows father Andrew Renner and son Owen Renner skiing up to a den on an island in Prince William Sound, the Alaska Department of Law said in a statement. The father aims a rifle inside the den before firing "at least two shots" at the bear inside. Source

Women wielding canes fend off man attacking Edmonton priest
Edmonton police are investigating after a group of elderly women, armed with canes, protected their parish priest from an unprovoked assault.
Father Marcin Mironiuk had just finished leading evening mass at Our Lady Queen of Poland Parish in south Edmonton on March 13 when he was approached by a young man he didn't recognize.
Within seconds, the stranger threw Mironiuk to the ground and wrapped his hands tightly around Mironiuk's neck, said Lorraine Turchansky, a spokesperson for the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton.
'They hit him with their canes'
As Mironiuk struggled to breathe, parishioners responded with the only weapons they had at their disposal — their walking canes.
"They were elderly ladies who were very shocked, understandably, but they did manage to intervene," Turchansky said in an interview Tuesday with CBC Radio's Edmonton AM.
"They hit him with their canes and got him to release the priest."
The assailant loosened his grip on Mironiuk's neck and ran off, Turchansky said.
"Perhaps if they had been younger they would have had their cell phones out and would have been calling 911 but that wasn't the case here," Turchansky said.
Mironiuk, who declined an interview with CBC News, wasn't hurt in the attack.
Edmonton police confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, and that witnesses, armed with canes, helped scare off the alleged attacker.
Police described the suspect as a white man, five-foot-nine and about 25 years old. He had short dark hair and wore a red T-shirt and a black jacket. He smelled of liquor, police said.
The church is at 9906 83rd Ave. in the Strathcona neighbourhood.
Father Roger Rouleau, the pastor at Catholic Parish of the Holy Name in Vermilion, 190 kilometres east of Edmonton, experienced a similar scare on Sunday, March 24.
Rouleau was in the middle of a morning mass when a man rushed the altar, Turchansky said.
"He pushed him up on the altar, and in that case, Father Rouleau couldn't help but think about what happened in that horrific attack in Montreal at St. Joseph's Oratory," Turchansky said.
"I think a lot of priests are wary of something like that when they hear something so terrible.
"We don't think about the priest being vulnerable but of course they are." Source

Survivor of Parkland school shooting, Sydney Aiello, kills herself
Sydney Aiello, a student who survived the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, and graduated last year took her life over the weekend, officials said. She was 19. Aiello had been close friends with Meadow Pollack, one of the victims of the Feb. 14, 2018, mass shooting at the school that left 14 students and three staff members dead. "Beautiful Sydney with such a bright future was taken from us way too soon," Pollack's brother, Hunter, wrote on Twitter. Aiello died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to Heather A. Gálvez, with the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office. "The death of Sydney Aiello is tragic, shocking and heartbreaking, and surely at least in significant part the result of the ripple effect of the MSD shooting," a statement from Pollack's family said. A GoFundMe account set up for Aiello's family said the teenager's passions were cheerleading, yoga "and brightening up the days of others." Source

Taking revenge for the Christchurch Mosque attack...
Priest stabbed at Saint Joseph's Oratory
A man armed with a large knife walked into Saint Joseph's Oratory during mass Friday and attacked a priest. The mass was being recorded for Sel+Lumiere TV, which streams the religious ceremony daily, but the video was quickly removed from the website. The video showed that at 8:40 a.m. a man wearing a dark winter coat and a light-coloured baseball cap pulled out a large knife as he walked in front of the altar, then ran up the steps toward a priest. The priest, who was initially identified by the Diocese of Quebec as Reverend Claude Grou, tried to run off as the attacker knocked over a candle but the man quickly caught up and pushed Grou to the ground and stabbed him once. The man then dropped his knife and worshippers ran forward as he stood up. Three men grabbed the assailant by the arms while others went to the aid of the injured priest. Security agents at the church then detained the man and held him until police officers arrived. Those officers arrested the suspect and brought him to a police station for questioning. Paramedics treated Grou at the scene and brought him to Montreal General Hospital for treatment. The Diocese of Quebec said that Father Grou is not seriously injured. Source

Aristotle On New Zealand's PM Jacinda Ardern: To Broadcast Muslim Call For Prayer On National TV, Radio On Friday.........Slaves And Women Have A Good Time Under Democracies...
Again, the evil practices of the last and worst form of democracy are all found in tyrannies. Such are the power given to women in their families in the hope that they will inform against their husbands, and the license which is allowed to slaves in order that they may betray their masters; for slaves and women do not conspire against tyrants; and they are of course friendly to tyrannies and also to democracies, since under them they have a good time. For the people too would fain be a monarch, and therefore by them, as well as by the tyrant, the flatterer is held in honor; in democracies he is the demagogue; and the tyrant also has those who associate with him in a humble spirit, which is a work of flattery. New Zealand to broadcast Muslim call for prayer on national TV, radio on Friday
New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Wednesday announced that the Muslim call for prayer – the Azaan – would be broadcast on national television and radio as a soon of solidarity with the country’s Muslim community after the Christchurch carnage, said Radio Pakistan. Ardern also announced that New Zealand would hold two minutes of silence as a mark of respect for the dead on the day and women in the country were being encouraged to wear headscarves to show their support for the Muslim community. New Zealand’s premier called for a global response to the dangers of social media after the twin-mosques massacre. A white supremacist gunman streamed his 17 minutes of carnage during which he killed 50 Muslim worshippers during Friday prayers. Facebook said the live stream from Christchurch was viewed fewer than 200 times but it had to remove a staggering 1.5 million videos as footage of the slaughter went viral. Ardern said while her focus was on the people of New Zealand, there were issues world leaders needed “to confront collectively”. “We cannot, for instance, just simply deal with some of the issues we face with our social media to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis,” she said. “There is an argument there to be made for us to take a united front on a global issue.” “This is not just an issue for New Zealand, the fact that social media platforms have been used to spread violence (and) material that incites violence. All of us need to present a united front.” Source
MUSLIMS Take Revenge For Christchurch Mosque Attack: Muslim Immigrant Sets School Bus On Fire With 51 Children On Board In Milan Italy
"I want to end it, the deaths in the Mediterranean must be stopped"
Senegalese man sets Italian school bus on fire with 51 children on board (PHOTOS, VIDEO)The driver of a school bus filled with children has been arrested by Italian police for setting fire to the vehicle near Milan. The Senegalese man reportedly called for an end to “deaths in the Mediterranean” during the incident. Miraculously all 51 schoolboys managed to escape the fire without injuries, although 12 children and two adults were sent to hospital for smoke inhalation, according to RaiNews24. The 46-year-old Senegal-born driver reportedly spilled gasoline down the aisle of the bus while shouting that he wants to stop deaths in the Mediterranean Sea before igniting the blaze. "I want to end it, the deaths in the Mediterranean must be stopped," he said according to the Italian news outlet. The children were students of Vailati middle school in the Italian city of Cremona, and raised the alarm by calling their parents after the driver announced that he wanted to kill himself. The Carabinieri, Italy’s national police service, stopped the vehicle by erecting a series of checkpoints that the driver attempted to break through. The man eventually lost control of the vehicle and attempted to set the bus alight before the military rescued the students by breaking the windows. Source

Three Muslims arrested....
Sounds like a planned terrorist plot
Third person arrested over deadly Dutch tram shooting
UTRECHT, Netherlands — Dutch police say they have arrested a third person on suspicion of involvement in the tram shooting in the city of Utrecht that left three people dead and five injured. Public prosecution office spokesman Ties Kortmann said Tuesday that three people are now in custody — the alleged shooter, 37-year-old Gokmen Tanis, and two others who were also arrested on suspicion of involvement in the shooting Monday morning. Kortmann says Tanis is being held on suspicion of manslaughter with a possible terrorist motive, but adds that investigations are continuing into what drove him to allegedly open fire in a tram. Turkish 'terror' suspect is ARRESTED after 'shooting a relative on Dutch tram "for family reasons" and then firing at anyone who tried to intervene', killing three
A gunman has killed three people on a tram in the Dutch city of Utrecht in what authorities said may have been a terror attack, and a suspect has been seized after an hours-long manhunt which saw schools and businesses in lockdown. Turkish-born Gökmen Tanis, 37, was allegedly targeting one of his own relatives in this morning's shooting, which left five other people injured, and saw the terrorism threat level in Utrecht raised to the highest possible. The suspect - who 'was known' to authorities - was detained during a raid on the Oudernoord district of Utrecht, and the threat level in the province has been downgraded by one notch as a result of the arrest, Dutch police confirmed. Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte said some people wounded in the tram attack 'are still in critical condition', with 'three people fighting for their lives'. Source

Dutch police hunt for Turkish man after three shot dead in tram
* Three dead, nine wounded in incident on tram in Utrecht
* Dutch police say seeking 37-year-old Turkish man
* Authorities say shooting appears to be terrorist attack
* Security beefed up at airports, schools, mosques (Adds number of deaths, injuries, newspaper, Rutte statement)
By Bart H. Meijer
UTRECHT, Netherlands, March 18 (Reuters) - A gunman shot dead three people and wounded nine on a tram in the Dutch city of Utrecht on Monday and police said they were hunting for a 37-year-old Turkish man in an apparent terrorist attack.
Dutch authorities raised the terrorism threat to its highest level in Utrecht province, schools were told to shut their doors and paramilitary police increased security at airports and other vital infrastructure and also at mosques.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte convened crisis talks, saying he was deeply concerned about the incident, which came three days after a lone gunman killed 50 people in mass shootings at two mosques in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand.
"The police asks you to watch out for 37-year-old Gokmen Tanis (born in Turkey) in connection with this morning's incident," Dutch police said in a statement.
They issued an image of the man and warned the public not to approach him. They gave no further details.
The mayor of Utrecht, Jan van Zanen, said three people had been killed and nine injured, three of them seriously, in the tram incident.
"Our country today has been jolted by an attack in Utrecht," the prime minister said in a statement. "Police and prosecutors are looking into what exactly happened. What's known now is that there was shooting at people sitting in a tram in Utrecht."
Rutte did not repeat earlier suggestions that the shooting may have had a terrorist motive.
The Algemeen Dagblad newspaper, citing a witness, said the gunman had targeted one woman on the tram and then shot other people who had tried to help her.
Dutch television showed counter-terrorism units surrounding a house in Utrecht, but there was no official confirmation that the gunman might be inside.
"A lot is still unclear at this point and local authorities are working hard to establish all the facts. What we already know is that a culprit is at large," Counter-Terrorism Agency head Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg told a news conference.
Earlier Aalbersberg said the shooting "appears to be a terrorist attack". Source

CCTV captures Turkish 'gunman' on Dutch tram moments before 'terrorist-motivated' shooting spree left three people dead and nine others wounded - as police warn public not to approach suspect
Dutch police have named a suspect in the 'terrorist-motivated' shooting on a tram in Utrecht, which resulted in the death of three people and left nine others injured. Police tweeted a photograph of Turkish-born Gökmen Tanis, 37, believed to have been captured on the tram's CCTV just four minutes before the incident at 10.45am this morning, and urged the public to 'look out for him but do not approach.' The gunman, who may not have been acting alone, fled the scene, reportedly in a red Renault Clio compact sedan, which has since been found abandoned in Utrecht. The photograph was released as heavily armed police gathered in front of an apartment block some 200 yards from the scene the shooting, where the suspected gunman is believed to be holed up. Police said they were searching for the shooter 'with all possible means.' Shortly after 12.30pm local time, the Dutch government raised the terrorism threat level to the highest possible in the province of Utrecht, and local residents in one of the Netherlands' biggest cities have been urged to stay indoors in case of further incidents. 17 minutes of carnage: how New Zealand gunman broadcast his killings online
LONDON (Reuters) - A gunman who killed 49 people at two New Zealand mosques live-streamed the attacks on Facebook for 17 minutes using an app designed for extreme sports enthusiasts, with copies still being shared on social media hours later.
The live footage of Friday’s attacks, New Zealand’s worst-ever mass shooting, was first posted to Facebook and has since been shared on Twitter, Alphabet Inc’s YouTube and Facebook-owned Whatsapp and Instagram.
Facebook, Twitter and YouTube all said they had taken steps to remove copies of the videos. Facebook said it had deleted the gunman’s accounts “shortly after the livestream commenced” after being alerted by police.
But Reuters found videos of the shooting on all five platforms up to 10 hours after the attacks, which began at 1345 local time in the city of Christchurch. Twitter and Google said they were working to stop the footage being reshared. Facebook did not immediately respond to additional questions.
In a 15-minute window, Reuters found five copies of the footage on YouTube uploaded under the search term “New Zealand” and tagged with categories including “education” and “people & blogs”. In another case, the video was shared by a verified Instagram user in Indonesia with more than 1.6 million followers. The user did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.
