Protesters Attack FYROM Macedonia State Parliament Deputies In Skopje

The United States "strongly condemns" attacks on members of Macedonia's parliament, State Department spokesman Mark Toner said in a statement on Friday. Protesters stormed into Macedonia's parliament and assaulted the leader of the Social Democrats on Thursday after his party and ethnic Albanian allies voted to elect an Albanian as parliament speaker, witnesses said. "The United States strongly condemns the violent attacks on members of the Macedonian parliament which followed the election of Talat Xhaferi as Speaker of Parliament," Toner said. "The United States calls on Macedonian authorities to ensure the security of all members of parliament, to investigate the attack thoroughly, and to hold accountable those who committed acts of violence." MUSLIM Terrorist Karim Cheurfi (Abu Yusuf al-Baljik) Opens Fire On Champs-Elysees in Paris Killing Police Officer

A policeman was shot dead while two other officers were seriously injured by a Kalashnikov-wielding gunman on the Champs Elysees in central Paris - just three days before the French presidential election. The alleged ISIS gunman, identified as 39-year-old Karim C - who was jailed for 20 years for trying to kill officers in 2001 - parked his Audi and opened fire after police stopped at a red light on the world famous avenue. French police said the attack was probably a 'terrorist act' and dramatic video footage captured the moment police shot at the assailant, who later died. Police have now launched a desperate manhunt for a second suspect after heavily armed officers flooded the area in the heart of the French capital. Officers have been searching the home of the alleged shooter - who was known to security services and had been flagged as an 'extremist' - in east Paris and he had previously said that he 'wanted to kill police'. The fatal incident unfolded as presidential candidates, including National Front party leader Marine Le Pen, debated on a TV show nearby before Sunday's election. Daily Mail >>>>>>>>>

Church Going Steve ‘Stevie Steve’ Stephens Went on A Killing Spree: Didn't Have True Invisible Sacrifice Of Heart To God Or True Visible Sacrifice Of The Holy Mass

No True Visible Sacrifice Of The Holy Mass No True Invisible Sacrifice Of Heart To God = No True Peace With God Or Men

A crazed gunman who filmed himself killing a grandad before boasting about slaughtering 14 others after he left an Easter church service. Sun

Why did church going ‘Stevie Steve’ go on a killing spree on Easter Sunday?

‘Stevie Steve’ is a protestant who didn't attend the public Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

‘Stevie Steve’ did not have true Invisible Sacrifice of Heart to God.

Both are necessary to bring peace with God and men.

If men do not attend the Visible Sacrifice of the Holy Mass with a True Invisible Sacrifice of Heart to God, men will never have peace with God or with society.

The crime that ‘Stevie Steve’ committed is not due to lack of gun laws or any other excuse.

The only reason for his crime is due to the actions of a man who neglected to give required public adoration of God in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Same law applies for the victim Robert Godwin Sr, 74:

The family describes their father as a kind, patient man who loved to go fishing and took them to church each week. Robert Godwin Sr. had 10 children. Source

Robert Godwin Sr, is required to attend the Visible Sacrifice of the Holy Mass with a True Invisible Sacrifice of the Heart To God.

Both men failed to fulfill God's law by giving God True Worship with a True Sacrifice Of Heart To God

Again:

No True Visible Sacrifice + No True Internal Sacrifice = No True Peace With God Or With Men.

This applies to ALL of God's creatures - including you.

If you have peace without fulfilling your obligation to God, it is a false peace.

Here read this written 400 years ago:

The necessity of visible Sacrifice, and the end, or cause why it was instituted, and used.

Two things, have always been much recommended by God, and highly esteemed by men of all sect, and sorts, who firmly believed that there was a God who extended his providence over mankind; first the honor of God, and peace with him; and secondly unity, peace and society amongst themselves. And these two, have always been, chiefly maintained amongst men, by a particular, visible Sacrifice, first offered unto Go upon an Altar, as a scared sign of the invisible Sacrifice of their hearts unto him; and after eaten, or communicated amongst themselves. By offering visible Sacrifice upon an Altar unto God, they solemnly protected the sacrifice of their hearts unto him, publicly adored him with the honor of Latria, or divine worship, which is due only unto him; and visibly made profession of peace, unity, and society with him, and amongst themselves: and by eating of the same Sacrifice, which had been offered unto God, they ratified and established the same peace, and unity, as partakers of that meat, with they had offered unto God for a sacred sign of common union, as generally manifest by experience, in all sects, and sorts of people, of former ages, who firmly believed, there was a God, and that his Providence was not wanting in the government of mankind.  Anonymus Eremita 1637

MEDITATIONS ON THE PASSION THE SEVENTH MEDITATION. How At Supper He Foretold The Scandal Of His Disciples, And Peter’s Denial Of Him.

UGOLINO DI NERIO
The Last Supper
1325-28

THE SEVENTH MEDITATION. How at supper he foretold the scandal of his Disciples, and Peter’s denial of him.

THE GOSPEL

Then began Disciples to contend together, which of them should be greater, to whom Jesus said:The Kings of the Gentiles overrule their subjects, but you not so, but he that is the greater amongst you, let him become as the younger: and he that is the leader, as the waiter: even as I am in the midst of you as he that ministereth and you are they that have remained with me in my temptations and I dispose to you, as my Father disposed to me, a kingdom: that you may eat and drink upon my table in my Kingdom, and may sit upon thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Little children yet a while I am with you, and whither I go, you can not now come. Simon Peter saith to him, Lord whither goest thou? Jesus answered, whither I go, thou canst not now follow me: Peter saith to him, why can not I follow thee now? I will yield my life for thee. Jesus answered: Simon, Simon, behold Satan hath required to have you for to sift as wheat, but I have prayed for them, that thy faith fail not, and after that thou shalt be converted, confirm thy brethren. Then Jesus saith to them. all you shall be scandallized in me in this night: and Peter answering said to him: although all shall be scandalized in thee, yet I will never be scandalized. I am ready to go with thee both to prison and unto death unto whom Jesus said: Amen I say to thee Peter, that in this night before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. Peter answered, yea though I should die with thee, I will bot deny thee. And the like said all the other Disciples. After this our Lord made a speech unto his Disciples exhorting them sweetly to his love, and to love on another: promising for to send them another comforter, which should remain with them, and should teach them all truth. Afterward he gave and left them his peace, exhorting them to be untied in him, as branches in the proper vine: to the extent they might bring forth greater fruit. After this foretelling them many persecutions and adversities which they were to suffer for his name, he exhorted them with his own example unto patience: and finally he made for them prayer unto his Father praying him, that he would keep and sanctify and guard them from all evil, conserving them untied together, even as he was one self same thing with his Father.

A FIGURE.

The Patriarch Jacob being near unto death, and having allis children gather together round about him, appointed Efraim the younger brother over Manasses which was the elder: and afterward having told them many things to come, he gave them allis blessing.

CONSIDERATIONS.

1. See the small consideration of the Disciples: for that in time, so inconvenient, when as the Death and Passion of their master was at hand, whilst that he stood treating with them of the treason which one of them was to commit against him, wherefore they had greater occasion to be sad and to desire all to suffer and die with Christ: they considering no one thing of this matter, and much less the example which a little before he had given them of so profound humility: with ambitious minds are disputing and contending amongst themselves which of them should be the greater. O how vain is man, and how great is our frailty and inconstancy, if we be not holpen and confirmed with the divine grace. 2. Consider on the other side, the benignity and meekness of our Savior because he is not incensed against his Disciples, neither reprehendeth them sharply, or confoundeth them for the small love which they show towards him: but familiarly correcteth them, and in most friendly manner instructeth them first by declaring unto them how that ambition was a vice of worldlings and gentiles: Secondly by setting before them the example of himself, who being such as he was, performed notwithstanding amongst them the office of a servant. Thirdly by promising them other kind of honors, & a kingdom in Heaven of greater importance, and how necessary humility is, seeing that Christ in the end of his life both with words and with examples doth so often inculcate and recommend it.

3. Consider how tenderly our Lord loved his Disciples, which although they were imperfect in his love, yet nevertheless because, they had followed him faithfully, & persevered with him in his mentations, he promiseth them in reward and recompense, not greatness and earthly goods, as he did unto the ancient Fathers, but a Heavenly Kingdom, & the self same kingdom and reward, which his eternal Father had disposed to give unto him. What greater honor and dignity then this, can mans heart desire, to be made after a sort equal in reward unto the very Son of God, to be coheir with Christ, and to eat at the same table with Christ? Yea as he saith in an other place: Our Lord will make his servants sit down at table, and he girding himself like a servant will minister unto them, O with how small travail may we obtain so great a good? happy is that soul which Christ calleth unto his service, and giveth it grace to suffer & persevere with him in his tentations unto the end: that afterward he may make it worthy to enjoy & reign with him in Heaven without end.

4. All you said our Lord shall be scandalized in me. See how still the displeasures and travails of our Savior increase: a little before he was troubled for that one of his Disciples was to betray him: now he is grieved because all of them are to be scandalized in him, and that which troubleth him most, is, that he, whom he had exalted above all the rest, within a while after should so shamefully deny him, and swear that he never knew him. See how on every side Blessed Jesus findeth new occasions of sorrow and sadness, for if he turn himself unto his Father, he seth him stand with the sword of his justice in his hand, prepared to strike him for our iniquities: If he turn him to his mother, he seeth her so much afflicted for his love, that she hath more need to be comforted herself, then to give comfort to her son: If he turn towards his friends and Disciples, he seth that within short space they all being scandalized in him shall abandon and forsake him. If finally he turn towards the fruit of his Passion, to comfort himself at least in those which were to be redeemed by his death: Alas my Lord how small in number did you perceived them to be, which were to take profit by your Blood: yea rather how many to your infinite grief did you see which would despise it & tread it under their feet?

5. If all the others be scandalized, said Peter unto Christ, yet will not I, and if need be I will go with thee to prison and unto death. In like manner said all the rest. O Redeemer of the world, how great courage do your Disciples show, but they will quickly loose it. O what difference is betwixt saying and doing? for their words go very strait, but their doings will go quite a wry, seeing that they say they will die for you, and not run away, but within a while after they will fly, and you shall die for them. But content yourself most benign Lord, that this promise which now they make you, remain as reserved for the time to come, when as after your Ascension they dispersing themselves over the whole world shall die all Martyrs for you. Then shall be fulfilled that which now they say, then shall they go to prisons and to death for your love: so that at this present you call them not to account for that which they promise, seeing that they will do quite contrary. O poor Disciples now cometh the hour, that obscure shower for you, wherein shall be obscured & darkened in you the light of faith, and so shall be discovered infirm and imperfect you are: seeing that now you go all none way united together, and shortly after you shall fly away dispersed into many ways: now you go like faithful Disciples together with your master, and presently after you shall return without a master and without true fidelity.

THE PRAYER

Thou shalt pray to Christ our Lord by that benignity & fatherly piety. wherewith he took compassion over the frailty of his Disciples, and healed their spiritual infirmities, that he permit thee not vainly to be carried away with any blast of Pride, neither to be removed by any dentition, from the way which thou hast begone of his holy service, but that knowing thine own weakness and inconstancy thou maiest trust only in him, & unite thyself unto him only: that aided and confirmed with his grace thou maiest overcome all the deceits of the Devil, and securely arrive to that happy kingdom, which he hath prepared for those which are humble of heart, which persevere for his love constant in the tentations and travails of this life.

DOCUMENTS

1. Seeing that Christ was not ashamed to serve his Disciples. If we think much to imitate the example of other men, at least let us not be ashamed to imitate the humility of God.

2. CHRIST promised his Apostles a kingdom, not for that they had followed him, but because they had preserved with him in his tentations: it availeth us little to begin well, if afterwards we persevere not: and he is not rewarded which only followeth Christ, but he which suffereth and travaileth with Christ.

3. The Devil desert with dentition to sift all men, but much more the servants of God, whom he hath elected for the aid and help of others. Let us therefore endeavor to be always vigilant, because our enemy sleepeth not.

4. Christ prayed for Peter that he being converted might help others: Even so, the graces which our Lord hath granted us, must not we keep idle, but use them to the help and salvation of others.

5. Let us not account our selves secure, although we seem to have gotten never so much virtue and perfections: for often times it happeneth, that they which seem far better then others fall most miserably.

6. Our Lord permitted Peter that great pilar to fall, for our instruction. First that we should learn, not to trust in ourselves, neither to attribute much to our own strength, seeing how frail and weak we are: Secondly that we should give more credit unto Christ and unto those which in his steed do govern us, then unto our own judgment. Thirdly to reprove the foolish boldness of those, which persuade themselves that they know and are able to do great matters and much better then others. Fourthly to the extent that those which have the charge and government of others, might learn by their own experience how to have compassion of their subjects when as they also happen to fall.

MEDITATIONS ON THE PASSION: THE SIXTH MEDITATION: How Our Lord Being At Supper Manifested The Treason Which Was To Be Committed Against Him

RUBENS, Peter Paul
Last Supper
1631-32
GOSPEL

When Jesus had said these things, he was troubled in spirit; and he testified, and said: Amen, amen I say to you, one of you shall betray me.  The disciples therefore looked one upon another, doubting of whom he spoke. Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, and said to him: Who is it of whom he speaketh? He therefore, leaning on the breast of Jesus, saith to him: Lord, who is it? Jesus answered: He it is to whom I shall reach bread dipped. And when he had dipped the bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. And after the morsel, Satan entered into him. And Jesus said to him: That which thou dost, do quickly. Now no man at the table knew to what purpose he said this unto him. For some thought, because Judas had the purse, that Jesus had said to him: Buy those things which we have need of for the festival day: or that he should give something to the poor. He therefore having received the morsel, went out immediately. And it was night. When he therefore was gone out, Jesus said: Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. If God be glorified in him, God also will glorify him in himself; and immediately will he glorify him. Jn.13.

FIGURE

Achitophel having been first councilor and very inward with King David, afterward conspired together with Absalon against him, and, procured with his consul to have him put to death.2Kings.15.17.

PROPHECIES

For if my enemy had reviled me, I would verily have borne with it. And if he that hated me had spoken great things against me, I would perhaps have hidden myself from him. [14] But thou a man of one mind, my guide, and my familiar, Who didst take sweetmeats together with me: in the house of God we walked with consent. Psal.54

CONSIDERATIONS

1. He is troubled, which clearth the Heavens, maketh calm the Sea, allaieth the Winds, and comforteth and pacifieth every troubled and afflicted soul. Alas how hard is this your speech O most benign Lord, and how bitter are these meats which until the end of supper you have reserved for your Disciples: a little before you gave them honey and milk, by teaching them with your precious Body and Blood, but now they understanding that their loving Master, their Guide, and their Pastor, is by one of them to be delivered to death, you give them with these words most bitter gall and absinthe.

2. O poor Disciples which now are so sad,by understanding that one of you is to betray his master, how much greater would your heart grieve be, if you knew that within short time, you all are to abandon him and to remain alone like silly sheep without their shepherd. O what a supper is there now preparing for you, much more bitter then this, wherein you shall not eat with your master, neither the like food neither in company together with him as now you do: but severed a sunder, full of fear, weeping and seething; and then wanting the Bread of life, which now you have before you, you shall eat bread of sorrow moistened full often with most bitter tears. And you (good Jesus) which knew all this, how could you taste of the meat which in this supper was given you, perceiving poison which Judas kept in his heart, and the wicked thoughts which passed through his perverted mind? by means whereof no one morsel of meat entered into your mouth, which savored not of Treason, of Gall & Death yet for all this so great is your meekness that you suffer the hand of this traitor to go together with yours into the same dish and meat, and because you will not confound him in the presence of them all,you dissemble and cover the matter, admonishing him only with general speech that thereby he may acknowledge it, and retire back from committing so great iniquity.

3.Our most meek Lord is sad and troubled, not for fear of that, which he was to suffer, neither yet for the torments and grieves which were prepared for him, but for pure love and compassion of the Disciple which was to betray him, and so consequently to be lost. See with what words he exaggerate this fact, first by grieving sign of being troubled: then by saying that one of them was to betray him. First he is troubled because one is to be lost: for that he is as much grieved by loosing one, as with the loss of all: he being that good shepherd which for the recovery of one lost sheep, lest all the other in those Heavenly mountains , and came down to seek it out in this desert, with so great labor & travail. Secondly he hath cause to be troubled, because he is one of his, one I say of those whom he loved most tenderly and in whom he had more trust & confidence, and who had received of him greater graces and gifts.Thirdly he is troubled for the grievousness of the excess, which he is to commit: that is treason a sin most heinous & horrible. Fourthly for the great importance of the personage whom he was to betray, which was his most loving master his Lord and his God.

4. O most sweet Jesus , if you are so much troubled, and so sad, for one only traitorous act, committed by your Disciple against you: what trouble and sorrow may I think have brought unto your tender hart, so many treason of mine and so great injuries done against your divine Majesty, throughout my whole life? and if the loss of one only grieved you so much, what sorrow and cross was that which your blessed Soul continually did bare, by seeing so few which were to profit by your Blood, and so huge a multitude which despising it would be lost.

5. Consider how good and sweet is our Lord:and by how many ways and means he procureth to help a soul, before he condemneth it: seeing that for to recall Judas from so great wickedness, and to draw him unto penance he tried first to overcome him with love and with benefits, by receiving him unto his own table ,by washing of his feet,by speaking so lovingly unto him: Afterwards with making him ashamed,by laying down unto him the indignity of that fact, when as he said, He that puteth his hand with me in the dish, shall betray me: finally with threatening and with fear of pain, saying Woe to that man &c. On the other side, consider the hard hart and perfidious of Judas, seeing that, neither the familiarity and humility of Christ, neither the sweetness of his speech, neither his fatherly correction, nor finally the fear and terror of punishment, were of force to recall him from that wickedness which he had conceived in his hart.Woe to that soul which once begnnieth to give place to the Devil, & to severe himself from Christ, for that he wexeth so obdurate, that he maketh his salvation as it were impossible.

THE PRAYER

Thou, shalt pray unto Christ our Lord, that since that he like a good Pastor endeavored by so many means to reduce his Disciples from sin to repentance,he will vouchsafe also to retire thee from thy errors and imperfections, and withal give thee force, to resist and overcome all the suggestions and deceits of the enemy, which continually laith wait to deceive thy soul, & to make thee run headlong into the pit of sin, that being thus helped with his grace, thou mayest come unto that brightness wherewith the souls of his elect shall shine in Heaven.

DOCUMENTS

1.Then the traitor's hand is at table with Christ when being unworthy,we presume to approach unto his sacred Altar, for such on one side as friends make a show to desire to eat with Christ and on the other side with their sins betray him to his crucifiers.

2. We ought by imitation of the meekness of Christ, not to disdain, nor suddenly condemn,or desire that our neighbor or brethren should be punished, when they are imperfect, or when as they do us any injury, but we must procure to help them with loving affection, and pray for them that they may perceive their fault.

3. Let us consider that humility of Christ who would in the same table in the same dish, and of the same meat and chalice, participate with his poor Disciples: and let us be confounded when as we desire peculiar meats, and different for the common sort of others.

4. The Devil first put into the heart of Judas, thoughts of treason, and afterward entered into him for the executing of the deed. Let us procure to resist at the first evil thoughts and suggestions of the Devil, least that afterwards by delighting therein, by little and little we open the gates of consent and give the Devil entrance to rob & spoil our souls of the grace of God.

5. We must procure to do our works in the light, and not in the darkness of the night as Judas did, that is, let us not do any thing in secret which may not be done in the sight of all men: In like manner religious and spiritual persons in using their devotions must not do any thing which they would have secret or not known, unto their Superiors or ghostly Fathers: least by the subtility of the Devil, they incur some downfall as Judas did.

6. Let us be confounded that so smally we imitate the charity of Christ, being that he covertly corrected and by no means would make manifest his betrayer, we would have our own sins be hidden, and of the fruits of others we easily talk and would have everybody know them.

7. John, which is interpreted grace reposed on the bosom of Christ, to whom our Lord revealed the secret of his betraying, let us also price by purity of heart to be gracious in the sight of our Lord that we may be worthy by contemplation to repose ourselves on his sweet heart, and made partakers of his celestial secrets.

8. Christ called this Passion & humiliation, his glory and clarification, and that therewith he was to glorify God. O how different are the judgements of man & of God, for that men account their glory, to consist in honors, greatness, and prosperities of this life, but the eternal wisdom of God esteem it to be in the despising of a mans self, and in suffering.

MEDITATIONS ON THE PASSION: THE FIFTH MEDITATION: Of The Institution Of The Most Blessed Sacrament

GOSPEL

And whilst they were at supper, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke: and gave to his disciples, and said: Take ye, and eat. This is my body. And taking the chalice, he gave thanks, and gave to them, saying: Drink ye all of this. For this is my blood of the new testament, which shall be shed for many unto remission of sins. Mt.26.

For what is the good thing of him, and what is his beautiful thing, but the corn of the elect, and wine springing forth virgins? Zac.9

Come, eat my bread, and drink the wine which I have mingled for you. Prov.9.

CONSIDERATIONS

1. It is a custom of faithful friends which tenderly love one another, at such time as they are to be severed from each other to be desirous to remain together one day in consolation. Even so our Savior being to depart from this world, had desire, as before he said to make this last Pasche with his dear Disciples to comfort himself with them, and to leave them some pledge of his love, and an eternal memory of himself

2. Consider, with how great love, Christ our Lord now drawing near unto death, standeth like a good householder making his last will & testament and dividing amongst his dear sons that precious heritage of his most sacred  Body and Blood: see how unto all he give equal portions, yea unto every one he give all, seeing that by giving his Body, he there withal giveth all the divine treasures which are contained therein and whilest in manner of a good Pastor with unspeakable charity he feedeth his flock, not now with Manna of the desert, neither yet with water of the rock as did Moses, but with the true bread of his vivisicating flesh, and with the true drink of his most precious blood:He himself on the other side is feed with their souls, which by means of the mysterious meat he unties & converted into himself that they may be one self same hart,& one self same souls with him.

3. See what fervent desire and ardent love this potent King of glory, and this Lord of Majesty bare towards us his most base creatures: us which are nothing but dust and ashes: for seeing that his fatherly and most pitiful hart, could not imagine things more high, and better to declare unto us his exceeding goodness, and most burning love: after that he had made us a deed of gift of all created things, and employed his Angels in our custody, in fine, he also gave himself unto us. O my Lord, to give yourself, is truly a great and liberal gift, but to give yourself in such sort as you have given, exceeded all liberality: because you have not been contented to give yourself unto us for our Lord and for our God: which thing the holy Prophet reputed great felicity, when as he said: Beatus populus cuius Dominus Deus eius. Blessed is the people whose God is our Lord: But you would give yourself for a Father, for a Brother, for a Companion, for a Spouse, for an Advocate, and finally that which understanding could never have comprehended, nor human hart have desired, you have also given yourself for meat and for ransom of man,to the end that afterward you may give your self also unto him for a reward, that he being filled with the abundance of your eternal sweetness, should then have nothing else to desire.

4.Consider likewise in respect of the time, the great love which our Savior showed us, in instituting of this divine Sacrament, seeing that whilest his enemies were a preparing for him the greatest griefs and torments of the world, he forgetting himself, and only careful of our good, is preparing for us this most pleasant and delightful food: and when as they addresses for him Absinth and Gall, he provided for us this most sweet honey, and most delicate Manna. O sweet Jesus with how great reason is it written, that love is as strong as death, seeing that all the waters and torrents of your most bitter Passion & death, could not extinguish or any whit cool or diminish, the burning flames of your love? well might the apprehension of death bring you in to an agony, and force you to sweat blood: but it could not possess your hart in such sort , as to withdraw you from bestowing on us this so great and marvelous gift. 5. Truly my Lord, full well said the Prophet, that with great piety and mercy you made this divine Sacrament as a memorial and abridgment of all your marvelous works: for that in all things which you have made:in some of them is particularly set forth your power,in others your wisdom, and in some else your goodness, but in this, you have declare together infinite power, marvelous wisdom, & incomprehensible goodness: Power, seeing that you could under the form of bread, give interiorly unto all men for meat, your Sacred Body united with your most holy Soul, and with your most sovereign divinity. Wisdom, for that you knew how to find out this means, so sweet and so proportional unto us for to give yourself unto man and to unite him unto you, with a link of love. Goodness: in bestowing upon us benefit so singular, and a gift of so great charity. O meat most wholesome which maketh the sons of men, to become the sons of God, O sacred and reverend Bread, which restoreth the minds of men, confirm the hart, and exhilarated the spirit. O lively and super substantial Bread, Bread truly Angelical, who will grant me,that worthily I may feed of thee & once satiate the hungry desire of my hart. Lead me sweet Lord into your wine cellar, order in me charity: because my soul fainteth if you succor it not with this reviving and wholesome drink.

6.All you which have thirst of justice, thirst of salvation, and thirst of the love of your God:come unto this wholesome and sweet water:And what other waters are these, save you yourself O sweet Jesu the fountain of water of life, of which water you said by the mouth of the Prophet, Sicut aqua effusus sum. For then like unto water you powered forth your self, when as you exinanited yourself by taking upon you the form of a servant: when as the fullness of your divinity melting for our love was diffused and communicated unto man in this miraculous Sacrament:you are that heavenly dew that desired rain which the Prophet so greatly wished should come down from Heaven, when as he said: Rorate Coeli desuper, et nubbes pluat iustum. you are that voluntary rain, that sweet Manna , which God sent from Heaven upon his inheritance:upon us which fainting for hunger and famine, went wandering through the desert of this world: This finally is that same water, which washed and purged our soul from the filth & odor of sin, which quenches the thirst of our desires, & which alayth the heat of our concupiscence. Come therefore all & as the Prophet invites us. Hauriamus aquas cugadio de fontibus Saluatoris. Let us cheerfully draw water of Divine Grace , which maketh the soul to ascend unto eternal life, and from whence all the fountains of virtue and heavenly gifts have their first beginning: and albeit you have no silver money, that is firmness and perfection to resist the fire of temptations, come yet nevertheless and buy, for that liberally and without and price shall be given you wine & milk. This is that wine and that milk where unto the Spouse invite you with these words. Bibi uinum meum cum lacte meo, comedite amici,et bibite,et inebriamini carissimi.I have drunk my wine and my milk, eat,O my friends, drink, and make yourselves drunk,O my dearest.O how delightful is this milk, sweet Jesu, O how great is the multitude of consolations and the spiritual delights which thou hast hidden under this celestial food, and how sweetly and soberly are men made drunk with the wine of your charity, wherewith they feel themselves inflamed, whosoever devoutly approaching unto your Altar do set their mouth at this most amorous chalice. A wine which verily maketh men drunk, seeing that it maketh merry the hart, and causeth in the soul an eternal forgetfulness of all worldly things.O my Lord if it might please your Majesty to give unto my soul for to taste one only little drop of this wine and heavenly milk, how presently would she despise all the vain consolations and most bitter delights of this world, and my hart being enlarged with sweetness, would run with great swiftness and velocity in the way of your commandments, until arriving unto the place where you manifest your glory, which now lie hidden under the veil of this Sacrament, her thirst should be fully quenched.

7. Arise now my soul and go forth of the dust of thy vile condition, and from the base consideration of thyself, and contemplate how by the benefit of this mysterious Sacrament thou art made partaker of the divine sweetness, & spouse of the only begotten Son of God:Here miserable man sitteth at the self same table with the Angels, putteth his hand in the self same dish with Almighty God, and feedeth and liveth of the same God.Here most high and most base things are joined together, and all the earthy things with the celestial.  Here the creator of the world with an amorous link is united unto his creature, and mortal man is transformed into God.

THE PRAYER

Thou shalt render infinite thanks unto our Lord for this inestimable benefit, which would vouchsafe to remain in this blessed Sacrament, for meat, for medicine, and for comfort of thy soul: and likewise thou shalt ask grace to approach and to receive this celestial meat, with all kind of purity and devotion, that being made partaker of those marvelous effects which it is wont to  work in the souls of them which receive it worthy, thou mayest every day increase more & more in his love, and by the force and virtue of this meat, walk with more fervor and perfection in the way of his service.

DOCUMENTS

1. Christ taking bread, first of all gave thanks unto his Father: even so,before we received this blessed Sacrament,we must prepare ourselves with prayer and thanksgiving unto our Heavenly Benefactor for this so great gift.

2. We ought according to the imitation of Christ at the beginning of every good work to give thanks and glorify our Lord.

3. We ought to annihilate ourselves, by mortification of our passions, and by abnegation of our own wills, and to make ourselves meat for Christ even as he exinanited himself and became meat for our soul.

4. We ought in the tribulations & adversities of this life, to give thanks and to bless our Lord, even as Christ taking the Chalice wherein was prefigured his Passion, gave thanks and blessed it.

5. Christ afterward that he had given his Apostles drink of his chalice, promise them, that they should drink new wine with him in his Kingdom: Even so we, if in this life we drink of the chalice of tribulation, and of the Passion of Christ,we shall with him in the life to come be made partakers of his Divine consolations.

6. If Christ in this blessed Sacrament,as the scripture witnesses,is called the bread of Angels,If we will worthily received him, we must become Angels, that is,we must imitate their cleanness and purity.

7. Christ would leave us his body and his blood under the forms of bread and wine, that as bread is made of many little corns of wheat, and wine of many grains of grapes: Even so all faithful people which worthily participate of this Sacrament, ought to be united together in charity,in like manner as were those ancient Christians, of whom the  Scripture saith. That they were all one self same hart, and one soul.

THE FOURTH MEDITATION

How our Lord washed the feet of his Disciples

GOSPEL

Before the festival day of the pasch, Jesus knowing that his hour was come, that he should pass out of this world to the Father: having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them unto the end. And when supper was done, (the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray him,) Knowing that the Father had given him all things into his hands, and that he came from God, and goeth to God; He riseth from supper, and layeth aside his garments, and having taken a towel, girded himself. After that, he putteth water into a basin, and began to wash the feet of the disciples, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. He cometh therefore to Simon Peter. And Peter saith to him: Lord, dost thou wash my feet? Jesus answered, and said to him: What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. Peter saith to him: Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him: If I wash thee not, thou shalt have no part with me. Simon Peter saith to him: Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head. Jesus saith to him: He that is washed, needeth not but to wash his feet, but is clean wholly. And you are clean, but not all. For he knew who he was that would betray him; therefore he said: You are not all clean. Then after he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, being set down again, he said to them: Know you what I have done to you? You call me Master, and Lord; and you say well, for so I am. If then I being your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; you also ought to wash one another' s feet. For I have given you an example, that as I have done to you, so you do also..

FIGURES

And having brought them into the house, he fetched water, and they washed their feet, Gen. 43.

And immediately he offered Aaron and his sons: and when he had washed them, He vested the high priest with the strait linen garment, girding him with the girdle, and putting on him the violet tunic, and over it he put the ephod, Levit.8.

CONSIDERATIONS

1. Consider how Christ loved his Disciples til the end, and see how in manner of that great father Abraham of whom it is written, that is the greatest heat of the day he stood at the gate of his Tabernacle. Our Savior standeth at the gate, being now near the end of his life, wholly enflamed with love, and although he always exceeded in love, yet at the end of his life he showed far greater excess. And these are the excesses whereof Moses  & Elias talked together in the Mount Thabor, which was to be accomplished in Jerusalem. It was truly a great excess that God should abase himself for to wash the feet of men: It was likewise an excess that the Creator should give himself for food unto his creature: And it was also an excess that the Lord of the whole world, would vouchsafe to die on the Cross, for to give life unto his most vile servants. Our Lord therefore loved his Disciples to the end, for that in the end he showed them greater signs of his love,he loved them to the end, because he loved them perseverantly until the end, and moreover he loved them to the end, seeing that their love was it which brought him to end his life upon a Cross.

2. See how on the one side the Disciples, which were servants remain sitting,& the Lord of Lords,to whose name every knee doth bow, goeth about with such humility & devotion, bowing even to the earth now before one, now before another his sacred knees, and handling and washing with his most pure hands the odor and filth of their unclean feet, and afterward with so great love both wiping and kissing them. O blessed Disciples how greatly would my soul have desired to put her eyes & her mouth where you set your feet, seeing you put them in the same hands wherein stood the Angels and the Heavens,O my soul seeing that our Lord invited us with such love and charity, go thou also and put thyself in some corner behind the blessed Apostles and stay there until the end,and when our Lord cometh put forth the feet of thy unclean affections to be washed of him,for they which he washed not, shall have no part with him.

3. Consider how greatly astonished those simple Disciples might be seeing their Lord and Master, whom, both for his great sanctity and divine works, they most highly esteemed, to stand in manner of a most vile servant, washing the odor of their feet and especially humble Saint Peter, whose humility was such, that at the first miracle which he saw of our Savior in the taking of fish, reputing himself unworthy to have so holy a man in his boat, cried out saying, depart from me Lord, because I am a man  a sinner, the which also had by divine revelation so great light and knowledge of the divinity of Christ, that our Lord asking of his Disciples whom they thought him to be, Peter only amongst all the rest most boldly answered, thou art Christ the Son of the living GOD: wherefore what marvel is it,if seeing him now, to lie prostrate at his feet being altogether amazed and filled with wonder, he retired himself saying, Lord, doest thou wash my feet,as if he would have said, thou Son of the most highest, thou Lord of the universal world, thou the living and true GOD, unto whom worthily boweth every knee, in Heaven, in Earth,&in Hell, dost thou incline thyself tome a miserable man and a sinner, to me a most unworthy and vile servant of thine? over great in dignity it i that hand which created the Heavens and in whose power the Father hath put all things, should abase himself to the feet of a man, the highness of thy person & my profound misery permit me not ever to consent to this. O good Peter, wherefore doest thou marvel so much? certainly,if as thou well knowest the excellency and dignity of the son of God, thou didest likewise know the greatness of his charity, and the immeasurable zeal which he hath of the salvation:it would happily not seem to thee a great matter that he which for our love descended to take upon him the form of a servant. disdaineth not now in manner of a servant to wash the feet of men: but alas he will not leave off here, neither is his love contented with so small things, for this Lord which now thou seest so to humble himself as to wash thy feet with water, thou shalt see within short time afterward, with more profound humility, and with greater amazement to thee,go and place himself betwixt two thieves upon a most contemptible  tree for to make thee a bath with his own blood, and to give life unto thee and to the whole world by his death.  O my soul if this seem likewise unto thee, as unto Peter, over great indignity for so great a Majesty, and that he abase himself over much, consider how great was the excess of thy fault, seeing that it hath brought the God, and thy Creator unto such baseness and indignity.

4. Consider how whilest our Lord was washing the feet of his Disciples, they with great piety and devotion washed their face with abundance of tears, wherewithal likewise were cleansed and washed their souls: only Judas had his eyes dry & void of tears, even as his hart was void and empty of all kind of piety. Alas blessed Jesus what injury have you done unto this traitor that you humble yourself so much unto him, that taking his brutish feet into your divine hands, you wash them with so great humility, as though you asked him pardon? O Judas most malicious,O stony hart:which seeing they master kneeling on the ground to serve thee, yet notwithstanding perseveres in thy cruelty  and hardness: and more prevaileth in thy hart the greediness of money, then the example of such benignity and humility

5. What wonder was it to see, the King of Heaven, before whom the Angelical powers do tremble, and those incline themselves which sustain the world, to lie prostrate at the feet of most simple fishermen: And that which surpasseth all signs of love & humility,is to see him washing & cleansing in so loving a sort the feet of his betrayer.Truly my Lord you could not with any other remedy better cure our pride and swelling, then with this your excess of humility.  And how isit possible that miserable man should any more lift up his head and dare prefer himself before others, seeing the God of Majesty, in manner of a servant to lie  prostrate at the feet of sinners.

6. Then our Lord went from supper, and laid aside his garments, when as departing from that heavenly banquet, wherein with infinite felicity,he together with the Father and the holy Ghost was served and honored with Angels,he put off his Regal robes of glory, and exited  himself, descending into the womb of the Blessed Virgin:and then he girded  himself with a cloth or towel, when as taking upon himself the form of a servant, he put on our humanity, and then he put water into a basin, when as he poured forth his blood on the earth wherewith he washed away the filth & brutishness of our sins: then finally with a towel he wiped our feet when as in the  clean cloth of his humanity,he gathered together all the spot of our sins, according as the Prophet long before had said Et posuit Dominus in eo iniquitates omnium nostrorum. Our Lord laid upon him all our iniquities, whereby leaving us pure and clean,he himself remained as we see him on the Cross altogether bespotted & deformed, of whom marveling, with great reason the Angels said. Quare rubrum est indumentum tuum & vestimenta a tua sicut calcantium in torulari? Wherefore is thy clothing red, and thy garments like theirs which  tread grapes in the wine press? Great truly my Lord was your piety seeing that it cause you to desire with so great cost of your own life, the clean and purity of my soul.

7. I have given you an example said our Savior that as I have done so you do also. What have you done O most loving Lord,& what ought I miserable wretch to do your imitation? you loved me with most ardent charity, and so likewise you will have me to love you, you rose from table to wash the feet of your Disciples, and even so will you have me leave also my comforts and commodities for to serve & help my neighbors: You laid down your garments, that I should be ashamed to stand clothed with pride & disordinate passions, seeing how you disappareled yourself for an exercise of so great humility; You girded yourself with a most clean cloth and even so you will that I gird my loins with the sheet of chastity & cleanness of hart: Finally to your imitation I ought to wash the feet of my disciples, that is my senses and my disordinate affections, that as they have hitherto served the flesh,so now they begin to serve and obey unto the spirit, and if I shall do this, I have confidence in your piety that you will vouchsafe to received me, together with you holy Apostles unto your most delicate banquet

THE PRAYER

Thou shalt pray unto Christ our Lord, that as he for our example of humility, abased himself so much,  even as to wash the feet of his Traitor: so he gave thee grace to desire and rejoice to be servant to everyone, and to humble thyself at the feet of all men, although that they were contrary unto thee: and pray him likewise, by the merits of this his profound humility that he vouchsafe in such sort to purge and cleanse thy affections, that being perfectly purged, as well in the one as in the other of thy loves, that is towards God, and thy neighbor, thou mayest with more purity employ thyself in the service of his Majesty, and in helping other.

DOCUMENTS

1. We ought to procure for to have our hands & our head pure & clean,as the Apostles had, that is, we must endeavor that our works and conservation be holy, and that our intention be right and pure.

2. Let us procure by often Confession and penance continually to wash the feet of our soul from brutish thoughts, and from the love of earthly things, that we may have pat with Christ.

3. Christ desiring to exhort us to humility, first taught us with his own example,by washing the feet of his Apostles, and afterward with his words: to give us to understand, that they which are Superiors and guide unto others, ought first with their own example, and afterward with words instruct their subjects in virtue.

4. Then to the imitation of Christ, we wash the feet of our Brethren, and neighbors, when we pray for their sins when we pardon them their offenses, done against us, and when with our good example and holy instructions,we induce them to leave their sins and imperfections.

5. According to the example of Christ,we ought with great desire and gladness to embrace the works of charity and humility, seeing that no Christian ought to disdain the doings of that which Christ hath done, neither any servant ought to be ashamed,to undertake those service, wherein he hath seen his Lord and Master employ himself.

6. Let us be ashamed and confounded, seeing our Lord and master, stand striving with his Disciples to be inferior unto them, and to wash their feet in manner of a servant. And we silly worms of the earth, are ashamed to serve and seem inferior to others, but would be honored and respected.

7. Christ would not declare unto St.Peter the cause wherefore he washed their feet, until he had made an end thereof:even so in the things which God permitteth to happen in this life we ought not to care to know the cause, but to bear all things with patience, seeing that after in the end with our great fruit and comfort we shall know it.

8. They refuse to be washed of Christ and consequently shall have no part with him, which take not in good part, or else profit nothing by the correction or admonition which is given them of their superiors and spiritual fathers, and they likewise which despise, or else make resistance to the Divine inspirations.

MEDITATIONS ON THE PASSION: THE THIRD MEDITATION Of The Last Supper Which CHRIST Made With His Disciples

VEEN, Otto van
The Last Supper
1592

THE THIRD MEDITATION

Of the last supper which CHRIST made with his Disciples

GOSPEL

Now the feast of unleavened bread, which is called the pasch, was at hand. And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put Jesus to death: but they feared the people. And Satan entered into Judas, who was surnamed Iscariot, one of the twelve. And he went, and discoursed with the chief priests and the magistrates, how he might betray him to them. And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money. And he promised. And he sought opportunity to betray him in the absence of the multitude. And the day of the unleavened bread came, on which it was necessary that the pasch should be killed. And he sent Peter and John, saying: Go, and prepare for us the pasch, that we may eat. But they said: Where wilt thou that we prepare? And he said to them: Behold, as you go into the city, there shall meet you a man carrying a pitcher of water: follow him into the house where he entereth in. And you shall say to the goodman of the house: The master saith to thee, Where is the guest chamber, where I may eat the pasch with my disciples? And he will shew you a large dining room, furnished; and there prepare. And they going, found as he had said to them, and made ready the pasch. And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said to them: With desire I have desired to eat this pasch with you, before I suffer.

PROPHESIES

Wisdom hath built herself a house, she hath hewn her out seven pillars. She hath slain her victims, mingled her wine, and set forth her table. Prov 9

CONSIDERATIONS

1. When the hour was come, JESUS sat down together with the twelve. See how the Lord sitteth together with his servants, the Master with his Disciples, the Father with his sons, and the Pastor together with his beloved flock. Yea he was in manner of a most meek lamb, amongst meek sheep, amongst the which was also that ravening wolf that fierce dog Judas the traitor. O blessed Jesus was it not enough to have tolerated so long time in your company this cruel and bloody beast, but farther in this very last hour which you have chosen to comfort yourself a little with your most dear Disciples, you permit him to be present, and with the gall of his inquity to make bitter your most sweet conversation? It is evidently since my Lord, that to give us pure & perfect consolation, you would have all your own comfort to be mingled with so great bitterness.

2. O holy Apostles, O Princes of the earth, which are at this prefect with so great comfort, eating and drinking with your dear master: go to prepare yourself & take up your shield, arm yourselves with a strong and constant faith, for within few hours you shall find yourselves in the midst of weapons, environs round about with enemies: but you, vanquished with fear, shall fly away, leaving your good Pastor amongst the claws and jaws of ravening wolves.

3. O my soul, let us go to this supper, for itis the most noble, and the most precious that ever was in the world, for albeit in appearence it seemeth poor, yet therein is found, all the riches all the goodness, & all the beautifulness, which can either be seen or tasted in Paradise. O how happy should I account myself,if I had been worthy to be present at that most happy banquet, and in some thing or other to serve my Redeemer, and gather up the crumbs which fell from these divine hands,to contemplate that reverent face which the Angels do desire to behold, & to hear from the mouth of the eternal Word, those works most sweet then the honey comb. I think certainly that I should not have been able to have contained myself from prostrating me at those most holy feet, and washing them with tears, as long before Mary Magdalene did: And you most begin Lord, as you despised not her, would not likewise have despised me, howbeit a most unworthy sinner, but seeing me so poor would have opened the bowels f your mercy, and given me also as you did you disciples some spiritual refection.

4. I have greatly desired, said Christ to his Disciples, to eat with you this Pasche: Our Lord had at other times eaten the lamb, and made the Pasche with his Disciples, yet he never said the like words before. Now than were there two causes of this his great desire. One, in respect of the meat which he intended to give them, an other in consideration of himself which gave it unto them. For in all the other Pasche,he had eaten with them the lamb roasted and bread of Azimes as the law commanded, but in this his last supper he intended not to give the many more shadows & figures, but to give unto them himself the true lamb which was prefigured thereby, wherefore our Saviors desire was to make an end of all ceremonies of the old law,and to give a beginning to anew Pasche, wherein not the typical lamb, but the true lamb which which was to take away the sins of the world, was to be sacrificed and eaten. The second cause was because that in this Pasche was to be accomplished that most lonely desire of his hart which he always had of communicating himself wholly and by all means possible unto man, whereby afterwards that he was in so divers manners communicated unto him, even unto the clothing of himself with human flesh,to be better able to converse with man and to draw him unto himself, there remained nothing else to transform man perfectly and to make him oneself same thing with him, but for to give himself unto him for meat. Blessed JESUS therefore having for the space of thirty years run after us with a most burning thirst, to deliver us out of the hands of the Devil, to bring us back again unto his fold, and to restore unto us the salvation which we had lost, seeing now the day come wherein these his desires were accomplished, he giveth sign by these words: of his inward joy & consolation.

5. But O blessed JESUS, they which to eat this Pasche have great reason to be joyful for the remembrance of this singular benefit which you have bestowed on them: but you which are the lamb which with such barbarous cruelty is to be sacrificed & killed for the salvation of the world, have rather cause of sorrow and sadness. But I see, sweet Lord that this your desire proceedeth from overmuch love which you bear me, which causeth that you more account & esteem my good then your harm and rejoice in my salvation which is to result from your death, then grieve for the death which you have to suffer. O most desired of all nations, how far different are your desires from ours, & how much do you exceed all other with your charity! The Angels in Heaven desire to see your face, but, to the end they may enjoy you and be blessed: The Prophets and ancient Fathers desired your coming, but it was to have of you life and salvation: but you desire ti be with us, not for any profit of yours, but only to suffer and die for our salvation.

6. Afterward our Lord said to his Disciples that he was no more to celebrate this ceremonial Pasche, wherein was eaten the lamb, and drunken the wine in figure, till it should be fulfilled in the kingdom of God, that is to say, until that by his death he having destroyed sin, & by his resurrection justified our souls, should begin to reign in his Church, for then would he celebrate with them that new and perfect Pasche, wherein he would feed them with the true lamb, that is, with his most precious body and blood. Then the old shadows should be converted into light, the figures into truth, and the law into the Gospel. Then the sending of the Holy Ghost from Heaven, the world should begin plainly to know that Christ was the true Son of God and King of Heaven and Earth, and his spiritual and divine kingdom should begin to increase and dilate itself over the whole world, in the which time also, the faithful people (as it is written in the acts of the Apostles) began with joy and simplicity of hart to frequent this lively Bread, and to celebrate this mysterious Sacrament. O happy Kingdom,O blessed are those to whom our Lord ,is their God, and their King, and which are worthy to sit at this Table, and to make this new Pasche with our sweet Jesus, in the which he himself is the invite, he with his own hands serverth us, he is the meat wherewith we are fed,and he likewise incorporating us in himself, by means of this most amorous meat, together with us is also fed. O man acknowledge thy dignity, acknowledge thy faithful lover and Redeemer, and be not ungrateful for so infinite benefits, and if thou hast not else wherewith all to recompense him, at least yield him thanks, and love him which so dearly loved thee.

THE PRAYER

Thou shalt pray CHRIST our Lord, that as he made in this refectory, the last supper with his Disciples, even so he will with the gifts of his holy spirit, prepare in thy soul, a refectory, great and adorned, whither he may vouchsafe to come, for to inhabit and supp with thee, taht thou being united with him by the links of charity, mayest by his grace always think and do all suh things as are pleasing to his Majesty, and detest and avoid those which are contrary, and by persevering herein until the end be made worthy to be called unto that blessed supper of the marriage of the lamb, to the which are called all his elect.

DOCUMENTS

1. Christ supping and doing works of charity to his Disciples, excluded not Judas the traitor, of whom he knew himself to have been sold. Even so we in the works which we do for the benefit of our neighbor, must not exclude anyone, but do well unto all, and pray as well for them which hate us, as for those which love us.

2. If our Lord sometime defer the accomplishing of our desires, although they are good and holy, we must not be sorrowful nor discouraged:seeing that Christ our Lord expected so many years before that he could accomplish the desire which he had of our salvation.

3. Christ which knew full well how miserable this life is, and how precious death, had always life in contempt, and death in desire. But we most blind and carnal, which taste nothing else, and prize no other thing, but than which here we see:do greatly abhor death, and over greedily desire life.

4. Christ giving the Chalice unto his Disciples, said unto them, that they should divide it amongst them: by this Chalice was signified the tribulations and bitterness of this life, the which our Lord will have us divide amongst us that us to have compassion one of another, to bear the burden one of another, and to succor the necessities one of another, and in so doing we shall fulfill the law of Christ, conformable to the saying of the apostle. Alter alterius onera portate, et sic adimplebitis lege Christi.

5. Christ promised his Disciples, that then he would perfectly eat with them the Pasche, when he should reign in his Church, which thing he now performeth with all faithful Christians, when as they worthily communicating Christ likewise eateth with them, as his members. Now if such dignity of a Christian, as this is,to eat together with Christ, doth not move us to frequent this divine Sacrament: at least let this move us to the intent that hereafter at the day of judgment he may say unto us Come ye blessed of my Father, because when I was hungry ye gave me to eat.

6. The true Paschal lamb, that is Christ in the blessed Sacrament, ought to be eaten in such manner as he did eat the legal lamb. First with bread of Azimes without leaven, that is with a pure conscience, without malice or will to sin. Secondly with lettuces, that is with bitterness of contrition of our sins. Thirdly with our reins girded by continence of the flesh. Fourthly with shoe on our feet: that is, with our affections cleansed from earthly things, Fifthly with staves in our hand that is with a vigilant care and custody of ourselves.
