BORIS Johnson was rocked today as Sue Gray's Partygate probe tore into "failures of leadership and judgment" inside No10 during lockdown. In a watered-down version of the Whitehall inquiry, the top civil servant said "too little thought" was often given to the public's hardship during the pandemic. Ms Gray also blasted the booze culture inside government and demanded changes in behaviour were made. Her 12-page report concluded: "There were failures of leadership and judgment by different parts of No10 and the Cabinet Office at different times. "Some of the events should not have been allowed to take place. Other events should not have been allowed to develop as they did." Humbled Mr Johnson today issued an apology in the Commons and vowed to change the way he works through a new Office of the Prime Minister. He told MPs: "Firstly, I want to say sorry - and I'm sorry for the things we simply didn't get right and also sorry for the way this matter has been handled. "It's no use saying this or that was within the rules and it's no use saying people were working hard. This pandemic was hard for everyone."

Former Kansas teacher accused of leading all-female ISIS brigade
A former teacher from Kansas became a rare female combat leader in the Islamic State, teaching other women and children to use guns and bombs, federal prosecutors said in a case unsealed Friday night.
Allison Fluke-Ekren, 42, was charged with material support for terrorism in 2019 but was only brought to the Eastern District of Virginia Friday evening, after a recent arrest in Syria.
She led an ISIS military battalion, tried to plan a terrorist attack on an American college campus and taught and translated extremist doctrine, prosecutors say.Women make up only about 10% of those charged by the United States with supporting the Islamic State, and no previous case has involved someone accused of holding such a powerful position in the group. Experts have debated how large a role women played in armed conflict on behalf of the Islamic State. While the group enforced strict gender codes, violence by women was never banned. When its territory in Iraq and Syria came under attack 2016 and 2017, leaders explicitly encouraged women to take up arms.
Fluke-Ekren was a key part of that effort, prosecutors contend."Fluke-Ekren translated her extremist beliefs into action by serving as the appointed leader and organizer of an ISIS military battalion, directly training women and children in the use of AK-47 assault rifles, grenades, and suicide belts to support the Islamic State's murderous aims," wrote First Assistant U.S. Attorney Raj Parekh in a detention memo.According to the court record, Fluke-Ekren left the United States in 2008 for Egypt; she migrated to Libya in 2011 and then Syria a year later, where she hoped to join a violent Islamist movement. Authorities say her husband traveled with her and became a sniper trainer for ISIS; he later died in an airstrike and is not named in court records.
In 2014, he designed a plan to plant explosives at a U.S. college in retaliation for an airstrike, an alleged witness told authorities. The plan was approved by ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, according to prosecutors, but never came to fruition after Fluke-Ekren became pregnant.
She also allegedly hosted new ISIS recruits; witnesses told authorities they were struck by how many assault rifles were in her home. According to the criminal complaint, one saw her child holding a machine gun when he was 5 or 6 years old.
After the husband she traveled with died Fluke-Erken married a drone expert, who also died. Her next husband was a prominent military leader responsible for the defense of Raqqa, prosecutors said. It was after their marriage, according to the government, that the city's ISIS-appointed leader approved the creation of a female military battalion and made Fluke-Ekren its leader. She is accused of helping the women prepare for a coming siege of Raqqa by Kurdish forces in 2017 with training in martial arts, driving cars armed with explosive devices, and packing "go bags" of rifles and other weapons. Witnesses describe her as fluent in Arabic, English, Spanish and Turkish.In 2018, according to prosecutors, she sought to evade capture by U.S. authorities by arranging for a message to be sent to her family in the United States claiming she was dead. At the same time she said she intended to die as a martyr for ISIS, prosecutors said.
The prosecution's witnesses against Fluke-Ekren included a paid foreign government source, detainees in prison camps for ISIS members and a person convicted in the United States, according to the court record. Thousands of women from the Islamic State were held in a detention camp in Northeast Syria, where some were killed by the most radical detainees for failing to adhere to the rules of the Islamic State.
Fluke-Ekren is set to appear in federal court in Alexandria on Monday, when she will be appointed an attorney. Family members could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday. Source

Frick Park Bridge Collapse: 10 Minor Injuries Reported, 4 People Taken To Hospital
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Search dogs are at the scene and NTSB officials are en route to a bridge collapse where 10 people suffered minor injuries in Pittsburgh early Friday morning. Four of those injured when the Fern Hollow Bridge collapsed near Frick Park before 7 a.m. were taken to area hospitals. Three of the patients are in fair condition at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, and one is in fair condition at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. Some of those injured were first responders, Public Safety said.Crews were called to the scene in the area of Forbes and Braddock avenues after the collapse happened at 6:39 a.m., Public Safety said. Neighbor Wendy Stroh described what she heard.
“It sounded like a huge snow plow…pushing along the surface with no snow,” she said. “I didn’t know what it was…It was very frightening.”
Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey tweeted a dramatic aerial picture from above the scene of the collapse. Several cars as well as a Port Authority bus were involved in the collapse. At least three of the people rushed to hospitals were on the bus at the time of the collapse, Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Chief Darryl Jones said. Source

CLINTON, Iowa — A chemical plant in Clinton, Iowa said there is nothing to worry about after an explosion occurred Wednesday night.
LyondellBasell Public Relations Lead Megan Borchers said the explosion came from an operational event around 6:45 p.m. which caused one of the plant's low-density reactors to make a "loud noise."
One resident outside of Clinton captured the blast on a surveillance video from home. He told News 8 he's lived in there for over a year and has never seen or heard anything like this before, saying it felt like lightening had struck the area.Borchers explained the safety equipment operated as designed so no one was injured and the plant is stable.
"There is no cause for concern to the community and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused," Borchers said.
The explosion was reportedly seen across the river from Port Byron, Illinois.
The Clinton Complex is one of the largest chemical plants in Iowa, covering nearly 239 acres with close to 400 employees and contractors.
According to the company's website, the plant uses natural gas liquids as feedstock and eventually converts it to polyethylene plastic resins. The end result turns into leak-proof and shatter-proof containers for industrial and household chemicals, food preserve packaging, and children's toys. Source

The director of SITE Intelligence Group said on Thursday that AQAP (Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula) announced the death of a military commander in a US air strike in Yemen, Reuters reported.
Rita Katz, director of SITE which monitors militants groups online, said the militant group did not mention any date or location for the death of Salih bin Salim bin Ubayd ’Abolan (aka Abu 'Umayr al-Hadhrami) who was also a former associate of Al Qaeda's leader Osama Bin laden. Katz pointed to Twitter reports of a US air strike that killed 3 AQAP militants on Nov. 14. Source

The US has killed a prominent Al-Qaeda commander in an airstrike in Yemen named Salih bin Salim bin Ubayd ’Abolan, better identified as Abu Omar al-Hadhrami. The terror operatives in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) announced the death of one of its commanders, although they did not specify the exact date for al-Hadhrami's death, sources told Sputnik. The US had conducted the airstrikes in Yemen on November 14, 2021, and it was then reported that the airstrike had killed at least three suspected members of the Yemen-based al-Qaida.
"Missiles fired by a US drone struck a travelling vehicle passing on the road between the provinces of al-Bayda and Shabwa in the country's southern part," a military official had told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. It killed at least three members of the Yemen-based al-Qaida branch, and had injured two others including a woman, the official had said.
The Yemen-based al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) network operates in eastern and southern provinces and had been behind a series of attacks within the territory. US Central Command CENTCOM has been leading military operations to disrupt AQAP attack networks and had earlier conducted several such air raids in al-Bayda Governorate where they had also neutralized Mujahid al-Adani, an AQAP Shabwah leader, as well as al-Bayda-based facilitator Abu Layth al-Sanaani and three AQAP associates. Al-Adani, better known by the name Mohammad Shukri. The latter was an AQAP military leader in Aden, he was a central figure in planning and conducting terrorist attacks against Yemeni and Saudi-led coalition forces. Source

NEW ORLEANS — A loud boom is leaving many across the New Orleans metro area scratching their heads.
People from Algiers to Gentilly to St. Bernard Parish say they heard what sounded like an explosion around 11:15 Tuesday night.
“Just like one big boom that kind of sounded like someone crashed into something, maybe like a big firework,” said Alex Cvelbar, who heard the noise from the 7th Ward. “I heard a loud explosion. It was just really deep, sounded like a very large explosion and almost felt a little vibration from it,” said Bywater resident Devin Debeux.
Adding to the unusual, other neighbors reported seeing a yellow flash just a few seconds before the noise.
“Just scary, all of sudden everything was quiet and all of a sudden an explosion,” said Joyce Kelly who heard it from St. Bernard Parish.
Kelly and her daughter Aileen thought the noise was from a transformer exploding.
“It was a boom that went off for a couple of seconds,” Aileen Kelly said. “I thought it was a transformer. We didn’t lose power, but it did kind of shake the house a little bit.”
Entergy told us Wednesday the noise was not caused by the utility. There were some reports that it could be a meteor, but NASA says there was no significant activity over the New Orleans area. Furthermore, they say there was no scheduled test activity at Stennis Space Center during that time that could account for the noise.
The Chalmette Refinery confirmed Wednesday that they had no issues either, leaving many wondering -- what the heck was it? “Somebody has got to know something you would think,” Debeux said. “It was so loud and you could almost feel the vibration from it.”
The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality says they were not aware of the noise, but told us they are working to find out more information.
The NOPD says they did receive several calls about the noise, but there is no crime associated with the sound under investigation at this time. Source

Greece: Explosion damages buildings in central Athens
A loud explosion caused serious damage to a multi-story building in the Greek capital Athens on Wednesday morning.
Three people were injured in the blast, according to fire department officials. One of the people injured was a 77-year-old man who was taken to the hospital with burns. The other two were treated for smoke inhalation.
What happened?
The explosion happened some 200 meters (656 feet) from the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus. The blast was reportedly heard throughout the city.
Videos from local media showed that windows and facades of buildings on the other side of the street — Syngrou Avenue — had also been destroyed in the explosion.
"At the time of the explosion I was exactly across from the building, it was strong, really strong, (you see) the buildings around it," taxi driver Christos Chalkias told Reuters news agency. "The explosion sent us two lanes to the right," he said. The cause of the blast is under investigation. Greek media cited the fire department saying that it could have been caused by a gas leak, but crime investigation teams were also called to the scene.
As such, police have cordoned off the area and kept people at a distance of 150 meters.
Rescue workers were searching through the building, which had caught fire, to look for people trapped inside. News channel Skai reported that according to locals the building had been empty and was being renovated.
Some 18 firefighters and seven vehicles were at the scene to battle the blaze.
The incident happened days after an unusually heavy snowstorm first hit the city and brought traffic and several services to a halt. Source

6 minor injuries reported after explosion at Southwest Louisiana chemical plant Wednesday
SULPHUR, La. — News media in Lake Charles are reporting that an explosion has occurred Wednesday at a Southwest Louisiana chemical plant.
The Lake Charles American-Press is reporting that the explosion happened just before 11 a.m. at the Westlake Chemical South plant in Sulphur which is the former PPG plant.
A 12News viewer working in Orange County reports that she heard and felt the explosion. Just before noon a Westlake Chemical spokesman told KPLC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Lake Charles, that an empty Ethylene Dichloride storage tank exploded resulting in six minor injuries.
One person was treated on site and five others were taken to area hospitals, Joe Andrepont, plant spokesperson, said. All injuries were non-life threatening.
The spokesman also said that all shelter-in-place advisories and been lifted and that there are no vapors in the air.
Ethylene dichloride, which is a man-made chemical not found naturally, is commonly used in the production of vinyl chloride according to the National Library of Health website.
Vinyl chloride is used to make plastic and vinyl products inducing PVC pipes, furniture, automobile upholstery, wall coverings and automobile parts the site said.
The EPA classifies it as a “probable human carcinogen.”
The American-Press is also reporting that teachers at schools in Westlake and Sulphur have said that their building shook during the explosion. Source

A woman who stopped to help after a truck carrying 100 lab monkeys crashed in Pennsylvania fears she's caught an illness after one of the macaques hissed in her face.
Michelle Fallon, from Danville near Scranton, was driving directly behind the vehicle when it crashed, throwing animal crates all over the highway and smashing some to pieces.Four of the 100 animals escaped and were seen sitting among the wreckage before they fled.
Police say they have now all been accounted for, with three known to have been euthanized.
Fallon said she got out to help both the driver and the animals in their cages, initially believing them to be cats. When she approached and put her hand on the cage, she says the monkey hissed at her.
The day following the accident, Fallon suddenly developed a cough and pink-eye, which became so bad that she had to visit the emergency room at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Fallon has now had a rabies shot, and wrote about the symptoms she has since suffered on Facebook - and also told PA Homepage that she'd developed symptoms of pink eye - an inflammation or infection of the eye ball. Source

LAPD investigates Arnold Schwarzenegger car crash after woman is injured when the star rolls his GMC Yukon SUV over a Prius and then onto a Porsche Cayenne after lunch with his son and daughter
Arnold Schwarzenegger was involved in a car crash on Friday afternoon in Los Angeles that involved four vehicles and left his enormous black SUV perched on top of another car, leaving one other driver with a head injury.
The former governor, 74, was driving his GMC Yukon SUV and was about to turn onto busy Sunset Boulevard, about half-a-mile from his home in the Brentwood, when he smashed into a red Toyota Prius at 4:35pm.
The Prius was said to have been making a U-turn in the road when the collision occurred. The impact of the crash was so severe that the Prius' airbags deployed as a result of the collision as did those in Schwarzenegger's vehicle. The star's SUV then started to roll onto a white Porsche Cayenne that was directly behind Schwarzenegger's.
Law enforcement are conducting a full investigation into how the accident occurred. Although no tickets have been issued, one police source said they believed the accident was the fault of the Terminator actor, who was attempting to make a left turn but did not wait for a left-turn arrow at the intersection of Sunset and Allenford Avenue. Experimental Laboratory Monkeys From China Escape In Pennsylvania Truck Crash
Truck carrying 100 monkeys crashes in Pa., and now some are missing: Police
DANVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A truck carrying about 100 monkeys was involved in a crash Friday in Pennsylvania, state police said as authorities searched for at least three of the monkeys that appeared to have escaped the vehicle.
The truck carrying the animals crashed with a dump truck in the afternoon in Montour County, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Andrea Pelachick told the Daily Item.
The truck had been on its way to a lab, Pelachick said.Authorities have asked residents who might see the monkeys to call state police at 570-524-2662.
It was unclear if any people or animals were injured in the crash. Source

Ghana blast: Many feared dead after huge explosion in Bogoso
Many people are feared dead after a huge explosion near a mining town in western Ghana.
Police say a vehicle carrying mining explosives collided with a motorcycle near the town of Bogoso.
Images shared by local media showed a large plume of black smoke rising above destroyed buildings and scattered debris as residents call for help.
Police have not confirmed the number of casualties but graphic videos showed mutilated bodies of victims.
A large crater can also be seen beside a road.
In an emergency notice, police said the "huge explosion" had occurred between Bogoso and the village of Bawdie. Rescue efforts are under way and people have been told to move out of the area.
Police called on nearby towns to "open up their classrooms, churches etc to accommodate surviving victims".
"We continue to urge the public to remain calm as we manage the situation."
Ghana's President Nana Akufo-Addo said the military had joined emergency efforts to help "contain the situation", and the country's disaster management agency had been tasked with bringing "rapid relief" to residents. Source

Fiery Bronx explosion kills woman, 9 others injured — including 5 cops
A Bronx home exploded in flames during a possible gas leak and collapsed Tuesday — killing a 77-year-old woman and injuring at least nine other people, officials said.
The dead woman and her sister were inside the building when it exploded, and both were found laying on the ground outside when emergency responders arrived on scene, the FDNY said.
The surviving sister is in critical condition, as is a third woman, authorities said. The badly injured women are ages 82 and 68, according to the NYPD.
At least nine other people also were injured, including five cops, officials said. All were in stable condition and suffered from smoke inhalation, authorities said.
Firefighters responded to the home on Fox Street near Intervale Avenue in Longwood just before 11 a.m., about 4 minutes after they received reports of an explosion and collapse, the FDNY said.
Photos showed flames engulfing the building, and later, thick plumes of smoke still rising from the leveled home’s debris as dozens of firefighters worked the scene. Mayor Eric Adams was headed to the scene for an afternoon press conference.
ConEdison confirmed that its workers were on scene — with FDNY sources saying there were reports of an odor of gas.

A UCLA grad student has been stabbed to death in a random attack while she was working in a luxury furniture store in Los Angeles.
Brianna Kupfer, 24, was alone in the Croft House store on La Brea Avenue when a man entered and knifed her.
The architectural design student from Pacific Palisades was discovered 20 minutes later by another customer after Thursday's attack. Police said the male suspect is believed to be homeless and fled through the back door before calming walking down an alley, adding that he did not know the victim.
Brianna was working in the furniture store as a design consultant after graduating from Brentwood High School and the University of Miami.
Her father told CBSLA she was 'loved by all' and was a talented artist. Riley Rea, co-owner of Croft House, told the LA Times that Brianna was beloved by her coworkers at the store where she had worked for a year.
She added: 'She was mature beyond her years.'
The LAPD said in a statement: 'The suspect is described as a male Black, unknown age, tall, thin, wearing a dark hoodie, sunglasses, a white N-95 mask, dark skinny jeans, dark shoes and carrying a dark back pack.

An elderly nurse who was badly injured after being attacked at a Los Angeles transit bus stop has died of her injuries at a hospital where she worked for 38 years, her employer announced on Sunday.
Sandra Shells, 70, was attacked by a homeless man at about 5.15 a.m. on Thursday near Vignes Street and Cesar Chavez Avenue, half a mile away from Union Station, while she was waiting to catch a bus to her job at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries at the same medical facility on Sunday. Later that same day, police arrested Kerry Bell, a 48-year-old homeless man who was found sleeping not far away from the bus station.
Bell allegedly punched Shells in the head, leading the nurse to hit her head on the ground, likely striking it against the concrete. As a result of her fall, Shell suffered a fractured skull.
Bell was arrested without incident on suspicion of assault, but his charge will be updated to suspicion of murder, according to police.
No motive for the unprovoked attack has been revealed. Bell is being held on $2million bail, according to jail records. Bell has one prior arrest in Los Angeles, but multiple prior arrests in several other states, according to the LAPD.
Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michel Moore shared on Twitter that Shells' death was 'a tragic and senseless murder directly tied to the failure of this Nation's mental health resources. We can and must do better. This victim lived her life for others. We are falling short.'

The British man who was shot dead after taking four people hostage inside a Texas synagogue has been identified as a 44-year-old man from Blackburn.
Malik Faisal Akram was shot dead after a stand-off with American intelligence officers at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas on Saturday.
Akram, who was reportedly armed with 'backpacks of explosives', had demanded the release of convicted Pakistani terrorist Aafia Siddiqui - known as Lady Al Qaeda - who police say was referred to as his sister. He held the hostages, including Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker, trapped inside the Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, approximately 27 miles from Dallas, for about 10 hours before being shot dead.

All of the hostages were subsequently reported free and safe.
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss took to Twitter to condemn the 'appalling act of terrorism and anti-semitism in Texas'. Ms Truss added: 'We stand with US in defending the rights and freedoms of our citizens against those who spread hate.'
Lead FBI special agent Matthew DeSarno confirmed Akram was a British citizen and that 'at this time there is no indication that other individuals are involved' in a statement released to the media on Sunday afternoon.
He said the FBI Shooting Incident Review Team would conduct a 'thorough, factual and objective investigation'.
Counter Terror police also confirmed to MailOnline they would continue to work with 'US authorities and colleagues in the FBI' in the coming days as the investigation into Akram's actions continues.
It comes as dramatic livestream footage revealed the moment two hostages ran out of the temple.
Akram can be seen popping out of the door as he chases after them with a gun, before quickly retreating back inside and closing the door after spotting the nearby SWAT team. Dozens of agents then breach the synagogue as gunshots can be heard.
A spokesman for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said on Sunday: 'We are aware of the death of a British man in Texas and are in contact with the local authorities.' Source

Residents throughout a large area in western Iran reported hearing loud explosions strong enough to shake windows on Saturday night, with Iranian state media reporting hours after the incident that it was caused by lightning.
Some of the cities where the blasts were heard are located over 100 miles away from each other.
Earlier, Saeed Ketabi, governor of the city of Asadabad, had told Iranian media that the possibility that the explosion was the sound of thunderstorms had been ruled out. Additional statements made earlier in the evening by local officials added that the cause of the explosion was unclear. The Tasnim News Agency, associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, reported on Sunday morning that the explosion sound was caused by lightning and that it had "nothing to do with the activities of the armed forces or the testing of defense systems."
Deputy interior minister Majid Mirahmadi told the Iranian Fars News Agency as well that the explosion was caused by lightning.Additionally, on Sunday morning, Aboulghasem Jalali, a deputy head at Iran's Civil Aviation Organization, told the Iranian ILNA news agency that flights in western Iran had been grounded due to "unfavorable weather conditions," adding that the grounding of flights "is not related to anything else."
The blasting sound which remained unexplained for over 10 hours initially sparked speculation about an unannounced air defense drill taking place in the country. A man stormed into a Texas synagogue on the Sabbath and is holding hostages, telling a SWAT team, 'If anyone tries to enter this building, I’m telling you…everyone will die.'
The unknown assailant took the hostages at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville during a religious service around 11.30am, which was being live-streamed. The live-stream cut off shortly before 2pm local time.
Before the livestream cut off, the unknown assailant can be heard saying, 'I'm going to die. Don't cry about me' Colleyville, Texas, police are conducting SWAT operations and locals are being told to evacuate the area. State police are also assisting the scene as authorities set up by a nearby middle school, according to WFAA. The school is around the corner from the synagogue.
The live-stream cut off shortly before 2pm local time, where the man can be heard saying: 'I'm going to die.'
According to Star-Telegram reporter Jessika Harkay, he was overheard saying: 'I'm going to die, are you listening? I'm going to die doing this alright? Are you listening? I'm going to die. Don't cry about me.' It is unclear who he was saying this too.
He reportedly also ranted about religion in between saying that he's 'going to die,' as well as made vague references to weapons and ammunition.
It is unknown if there are any injuries or fatalities at this moment.
Social media users have been offering prayers for Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker, but his condition and location is unknown. Source

Arab Coalition strikes kill over 300 Iran-backed Houthi militia in Yemen: Statement
The Arab Coalition conducted 33 military operations in 24 hours targeting Iran-backed Houthi’s in the Yemeni province of Marib, killing more than 190 militia members and 21 military vehicles, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The Coalition also conducted 27 targeted operations in Yemen’s al-Bayda, eliminating 150 Iran-backed Houthi members and 16 military vehicles, according to the same SPA report.Following the announcement, an official statement warned against the Iran-backed Houthi’s continued attempts to attack civilian objects.
They also added that these strikes “thwarted the systemic attempts to target civilians.”
The targeted strike comes a little more than an hour after the Arab Coalition released a statement requesting travelers not to use the roads coming from Marib and al-Bayda towards the governorates of Harib, Ain, Bayhan, and Usaylan until further notice.
All “movements on these roads will be targeted,” said the original statement.
Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis launched dozens of cross-border attacks on Saudi Arabia throughout 2021.
In September 2021, the Houthis intensified their efforts to take Marib, a provincial capital which is the government’s last northern stronghold.
As hostilities escalated, the Houthis on January 3 seized a United Arab Emirates-flagged ship that the coalition said was carrying medical supplies.
On January 15, an Iran-backed Houthi spokesperson rejected the UN request to release the vessel.
The Iran-backed militia frequently target civilian areas and energy facilities in the Kingdom with explosive-laden drones and ballistic missiles.
The Arab Coalition has been carrying out attacks against legitimate military Houthi targets in Yemen in recent months, warning civilians to not approach or gather around the targeted sites beforehand.

‘Closed until further notice’: Part of I-70 into downtown Kansas City remains shut down
A part of westbound Intestate 70 remained closed Friday morning after a deadly encampment fire damaged a highway bridge, forcing a heavily traveled route into downtown Kansas City to be closed “until further notice.” The closure was causing traffic to back up along I-70 near Van Brunt Boulevard early in the morning rush hour, according to Kansas City Scout traffic cameras. Drivers were encouraged to find an alternate route around the closure near 18th Street in the Benton Curve. Commuters were being urged to exit I-70 at the Interstate 435 interchange to get around the closure. Local traffic was being allowed to exit at the 18th Street exit and use city streets through neighborhoods to get around the closure, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Kansas City District offices. The highway is closed while crews inspect a bridge that was damaged when a fire swept through a homeless encampment beneath an I-70 overpass in the area. Source

Special Forces Will Simulate An Insurgency On U.S. Soil In Upcoming Unconventional Warfare Exercise
The U.S. Army’s annual unconventional warfare exercise Robin Sage is set to kick off across rural North and South Carolina this month, pitting Special Forces candidates against simulated guerillas fighting for the fictional nation of “Pineland.” The exercise is so realistic and spans such a large area that the U.S. Army has issued notices to local law enforcement agencies warning them not to mistake the exercise for a real insurrection, an error that has cost one soldier his life during a previous Robin Sage event.
Robin Sage is conducted annually by the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School (SWCS) at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. This year’s Robin Sage will take place from January 22 to February 4 and will span across 25 counties in North Carolina and three counties in South Carolina. The exercise was first held in 1974 and is the culmination exercise (CULEX) — the final test in the U.S. Army’s Special Forces Qualification Course standing between candidates and their green berets. Man damages BBC headquarters statue with hammer
A man has taken a hammer to a statue on the BBC's Broadcasting House in central London.
The Prospero and Ariel statue was carved by Eric Gill and has been on display at the BBC since 1933.
There has been a campaign to have the statue removed for several years, because the sculptor recorded sexually abusing his daughters in his diaries.
Police were called to the scene at about 16:15 GMT and the man was brought down about four hours later.
BBC staff reported hearing the man shout "paedophile" as he struck the statue at Broadcasting House, which is connected to New Broadcasting House, the BBC's main headquarters. A spokesman for the Met said the man was brought down with the help of a fire crew.
He was checked over by ambulance workers before being arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and taken into custody, he added.
He said the property owners were examining any damage to the statue and building.
Earlier the force said another man had been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit criminal damage.
A spokeswoman for the BBC declined to comment.
