CNN — Tensions in Israel and the Palestinian territories remain high after Friday’s shooting, which police chief Yaakov Shabtai described as “one of the worst terror attacks in the past few years.” The shooter in that attack was also later killed by police forces, according to police. Two people were wounded in a separate shooting attack on Saturday in the City of David area of Jerusalem, according to police and ambulance services. The victims, one in his 20s and another in his 40s or 50s, were taken to the trauma unit of the Shaare Zedek Medical Center, the hospital said. In a statement the police said, “The shooting suspect was neutralized” after a “large police force was called to the scene.” The incident is being treated as a suspected terror attack, according to a preliminary report issued by Jerusalem police. Friday’s shooter was also later killed by police forces, according to police, in what police chief Yaakov Shabtai described as “one of the worst terror attacks in the past few years.” “As a result of the shooting attack, the death of 7 civilians was determined and 3 others were injured with additional degrees of injury,” police said. Five of the shooting victims were pronounced dead at the scene, Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency rescue service said: four men and a woman. Iran Says 'Small Drones' Attacked Its Military Site 

Reports and videos from Iran speak of multiple explosions and a fire at an ammunition factory in the Iranian city of Esfahan shortly after midnight local time. Following multiple reports by eyewitnesses after midnight, January 29, that an ammunition factory in Esfahan was hit by explosions and fire, Iran's defense ministry announced that small drones attacked the complex, and called the attack “unsuccessful.” It claimed all the drones were shot down, without saying if the attack came from inside the country or from outside.Small drones have a very short flying time and if these were used against the ammunition factory, they must have been launched from a close distance. That does not necessarily eliminate the possibility of a foreign country being behind the attack, but it would certainly prove some people in Iran carried it out. 

"The explosion took place in one of the munitions manufacturing centers of the Defense Ministry and, according to an announcement by the deputy Esfahan governor for security, there were no casualties," IRIB reported. However, eyewitnesses report and videos show the actual explosions at the factory. Some Twitter users say that the Esfahan factory was manufacturing warheads for the Shahed kamikaze drone that Iran is supplying Russia for attacks in Ukraine. The official, Mohammad Reza Jannesar, later told state television: "The damages are being investigated as well as the causes and elements that caused this explosion and .. will be announced later." According to some reports air defenses of Iran's traditional army and the IRGC have been put on high alert. There were also reports on social media of explosions and smoke in northwest of the capital Tehran. These reports have not been verified. Also, a large blaze engulfed an industrial area near the city of Tabriz, northwest Iran. The government said the fire started at a refinery producing motor oil, but the cause of the devastating blaze remains unclear. A social media post by a group of protesters in the southwestern Khuzestan province reports an explosion in Dezful. Another report says there were air raid sirens in Hamedan’s Nozheh airbase, but these remained unverified, similar to reports from Tehran and elesewhere. Source

MADRID, Jan 25 (Reuters) - Spanish authorities said they were investigating what they called a possible "terrorist" incident after a machete-wielding man attacked several people at two churches in the southern port city of Algeciras, killing at least one person. The man attacked clergymen at two different churches - San Isidro and Nuestra Senora de La Palma, around 300 metres (1,000 feet) apart - just after 8pm on Wednesday evening in downtown Algeciras, a spokesperson for the city said. Police said the attacker had been arrested, and a police source shared footage showing two officers escorting a man in a hooded sports top in handcuffs through a police station. 

Police have not released details of his name or nationality. Local media, including El Pais newspaper, said he was a 25-year-old Moroccan.The man who was killed was Diego Valencia, a sacristan at the Nuestra Senora de La Palma church, while the titular priest of the parish church of San Isidro, Antonio Rodriguez, was among the injured and is in serious condition, the Algeciras city spokesperson said. An unknown number of others were also injured. El Mundo newspaper reported that four people were hurt in the attack. Police said the suspect first entered the San Isidro church and attacked Rodriguez. A statement by the Algeciras Salesians said Rodriguez, 74, had been celebrating Eucharist when he was attacked. The assailant then went into the Nuestra Senora de La Palma church where he damaged property before attacking Valencia, who fled the church but was chased by the suspect, who inflicted further, fatal injuries on him outside, police said in a statement. Patricia Dunn told Eyewitness News the man in the video is her husband. They are going through a divorce, and she says she fears for her life. "A man under that kind of rage - who's to say what he might do?" she said. "He was trying to kill me. He really was." She said the area of the house he struck with his car was her bedroom. The home's metal fence is bent to the ground and there are large dents in the exterior of the home right outside her bedroom. "I was just trying to stay out of the way," she said. "So I don't know if he was drunk or under the influence. I never experienced anything like this in my life." Neighbor Journey Meggerson caught the rampage on camera and her family tried to comfort Patricia. "That was honestly the craziest thing I have ever seen," Meggerson said. "I can't even believe." ‘Port Richmond Strong’: Community members raising money to help families devastated by explosion

The Port Richmond community is coming together to support survivors of the devastating explosion that injured at least five people, destroyed three rowhouses, and damaged 43 others and a recreation center. “$10 is going to go a long way,” said Ken Paul, president of Port Richmond on Patrol and Civic (PROPAC). He lives a block away from the site of the explosion and is helping organize fundraising efforts to support the affected families. “I don’t care how small it is. You’re still making a difference and you’re willing to help your neighbors.” Organizations including PROPAC, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 87, and the Saint George Alumni Group have come together to form a coalition called Port Richmond Strong. So far, the group has set up a Venmo account (@portrichmondstrong) to receive cash donations and is collecting gift cards to help the families with essentials. “When you have nothing and you’ve lost everything, anything is more than nothing,” Paul said. 

The group is asking for gift cards to stores including Target, Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Wawa, and ShopRite, as well as Visa and Mastercard. “They’re all right within walking distance of where we live,” Paul said. “Lowe’s and Home Depot for repairs and things along those lines. Wawa gift cards so they can purchase gas, because a lot of them are staying away from here, so they’re traveling back and forth … Target, Walmart so they can buy essentials.” In addition to the three households whose homes were destroyed, several families remain displaced while they wait for structural evaluations on their homes, Paul said. Others need to make repairs to blown-out doors and windows, and may be struggling to meet their homeowners insurance deductibles. Paul describes the neighborhood as a “blue-collar community,” with many elderly residents living on fixed incomes. “Then something like this happens to them — it’s devastating,” Paul said. Port Richmond Strong plans to collect donations until sometime in March, and will then distribute the money to families according to need, Paul said. Source

Quebec provincial police said evacuations were underway in St-Roch-de-l’Achigan, a town about 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Montreal. Stéphanie Therrien, deputy director general for the Montcalm regional municipality, said three or four employees were unaccounted for. The regional municipality said more explosions were possible because of the propane tanks on site and it warned people to stay away. Therrien said authorities had established an evacuation zone extending one kilometer (a half mile) out from the site. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva says perpetrators will be found and punished after supporters of Brazilian far-right ex-President Jair Bolsonaro stormed Congress. The dramatic scenes come a week after the left-wing veteran's inauguration. Supporters of Mr Bolsonaro - who refuse to accept that he lost the election - broke through police barriers in the capital, Brasília. Police used tear gas but failed to repel the demonstrators. CHICAGO (WLS) -- A firefighter was injured Thursday as a massive fire ripped through homes in unincorporated Maine Township Thursday evening, according to officials. The blaze broke out in the 9400-block of Margail Avenue, between suburban Des Plaines and Park Ridge. Doorbell camera obtained exclusively by ABC7 captured a sudden apparent explosion before flames began sweeping through the townhome."We just ran out to really check on our neighbors and just make sure they were OK," said neighbor Nica Simmons. Officials said the fire started just after 4 p.m. in one unit before spreading to three others. The roof caved in. "We were just trying to drive through and then this happened. It was crazy. We got stuck. We couldn't leave," said Lorenz Tauzon, who happened to be driving through the area at the time of the fire. The fire was struck out before 7 p.m., with firefighter remaining on scene to monitor for hotspots. The firefighter received some burns during firefighting efforts and was taken to hospital for treatment after fire was out, officials said. At least one townhome was gutted by the fire as neighbors watched from afar. Four families have been displaced, officials said. Pace provided warming buses until all the displaced residents had secured somewhere to stay. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire officials said they are still trying to determine if there were any working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors inside these townhomes. Source

He was previously arrested by federal authorities in October 2019, but was released on the orders of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to avoid further bloodshed. Chaos broke out in the city around Guzmán’s arrest on Thursday, with local officials telling citizens to shelter at home amid clashes with cartel members in various parts of Culiacán. Social media videos appear to show trucks on fire and intense shooting near the airport, which was closed for most of the day due to the violence. CNN has not yet verified these videos. Passengers appeared to crouch for cover in an Aeromexico plane according to video shared on social media, which was hit by a bullet while grounded in Culiacán. No injuries were reported, said Aeromexico, which has canceled all its operations to and from the Sinaloan cities of Culiacan, Los Mochis and Mazatlan. Culiacán International Airport closed after Guzmán’s arrest for security reasons, airport authorities said on their Twitter account. Two powerful bomb explosions devastated apartment buildings in the Swedish capital Stockholm, local media reported Monday. No injuries were reported following the explosions, but five people have been arrested on suspicion of various crimes in connection with the incident, according to public broadcaster SVT. Bomb technicians and forensic technicians are investigating the scene and the police have launched a preliminary investigation into the incidents. Shortly after 3 a.m. local time Monday (0200GMT), police and emergency services were called to Grimsta in western Stockholm after an explosion, SVT reported. “I was woken up by the bang and didn't have time to think but was in a state of shock. I flew out of bed and ran straight to my child, who was scared,” said a resident who showed his apartment to SVT and wanted to remain anonymous out of concern for his child. “Terrible that it will happen in Sweden in 2023. You should be safe in your own home, but apparently not,” he said. According to the police, the building suffered extensive damage. “It was an extremely powerful explosion which has caused extensive damage to the entrance to the residential building,” police officer Ola Osterling told news outlet TT. 

'A big bang' 

 Local media reported that a well-known rap artist has been arrested as a suspect in the incident. The rapper is known to have links to criminal circles, according to the Aftonbladet daily. Police believe the explosion may have targeted another well-known rapper, it said. In Grimsta many were affected after the bombing, with windows smashed in several apartments. “It was a big bang, it felt like it was war,” a resident told SVT. Another explosion occurred in Bagarmossen in southern Stockholm just before 4.30 a.m. local time (0330GMT). According to SVT, a man was arrested this morning on suspicion of participation in dangerous destruction and illegal threats. Police currently do not see any connection between the two explosions but say they will investigate them in the wake of several recent incidents, including a New Year’s Eve shooting death of 20-year-old man in Vallingby in Grimsta. Trevor Bickford appeared to be a typical, all-American teenager before he allegedly became a radicalized Muslim and slashed two cops with a machete in Times Square. The alleged Islamic extremist, 19, once made the school honor roll, won awards for his artwork and was a member of the championship football team in his hometown of Wells, Maine. But after his father died of a drug overdose in 2018, it's believed Bickford's life descended into turmoil. By the time Bickford made his way to New York City on Amtrak alone for the alleged attacks this weekend, the teen was already reportedly on the FBI's radar. He was on the Bureau's terrorism 'Guardian Watchlist,' and had told his aunt he was planning to travel to Afghanistan to fight, sources told The New York Post. On Saturday night, Bickford allegedly attacked two NYPD police officers on Eighth Avenue between 51st and 52nd Street, right outside Times Square where thousands of revelers were ringing in the new year. Another officer shot at Bickford, striking him in the shoulder. He remains hospitalized at the Bellevue and charges are pending.Bickford does not have criminal record according to a preliminary investigation, but police sources say the Bureau in Boston have an open case on him. Authorities have told NBC they were looking into whether the suspect had previously posted what they called jihadist writings online and and then traveled to New York City to target police. Photos posted to Facebook show Bickford at different times of his life, many with his two brothers Devin and Travis. Source
