The attack on the Ministry building was followed on Tuesday morning by two explosions at a radio tower 30 miles to the north. No one has claimed responsibility for the bombings. Photographs from the scene of the first explosion showed that a grenade launcher had been left lying in the road near the Ministry building following the attack. No workers were in the building at the time of the incident, as the attack fell on an official holiday connected with the Orthodox Christian observance of Easter. No injuries were reported. The Tuesday morning explosions disabled two Soviet-era radio towers which were known to broadcast Russian state-affiliated stations. Russian war correspondents reported that a military airfield near Tiraspol had also come under attack. Moving at low altitude, they carried out at least six air strikes on residential buildings in the village of Klimovo," it said. Six buildings were damaged and seven people were injured, the statement said. A health ministry official said two people had been seriously injured, RIA news agency reported. Bryansk regional authorities closed schools for fear of further strikes, TASS news agency reported.

Russia's defence ministry said on Wednesday the continuation of "sabotage and attacks" by Ukrainian forces could prompt attacks on the capital Kyiv. "If such incidents continue, then consequence from the armed forces of the Russian Federation will be attacks on decision making centres, including in Kyiv, which the Russian army has refrained from to date," the defence ministry said. Authorities in four Russian regions bordering Ukraine and in Russian-controlled Crimea announced they were increasing security measures on Monday over what they said were "possible provocations" from Ukraine. An explosion at illegal oil refining depot in Nigeria's Rivers state has killed over 100 people overnight, a local government official said on Saturday. 'The fire outbreak occurred at an illegal bunkering site and it affected over 100 people who were burnt beyond recognition,' the state commissioner for petroleum resources, Goodluck Opiah, said. Unemployment and poverty in the oil-producing Niger Delta have made illegal crude refining an attractive business but with deadly consequences. At least five people have died and dozens more were injured in a fire at a Russian Defense Ministry research institute near Moscow on Thursday, the state-run TASS news agency reported, citing regional emergency services. Video footage shows plumes of dark smoke rising from the Aerospace Defense Forces’ Second Central Research Institute in the city of Tver some 150 kilometers northwest of Moscow. The 1,500-square-meter fire started on the second floor and ripped through the building’s upper three floors, forcing people inside to escape by jumping from windows. “A total of five people died. Twenty-five were injured,” TASS quoted its source in the Tver regional Emergency Situations Ministry as saying. The regional emergencies ministry said firefighting crews have been deployed to the scene and that there was no risk of the fire spreading to other buildings. The ministry and regional military prosecutors are now investigating the cause of the fire. Preliminary information points toward a problem with the building’s aging wiring as the cause, TASS cited its source in the emergency services as saying. Officials do not have evidence he was the same person who actually committed the shooting. Ten people were shot in the attack. James’ name was connected to a U-Haul sought in connection with the attack, official said. A key was left behind at the scene of the shooting. A straphanger told The Post he came face to face with the mass shooter who opened fire on a crowded subway Tuesday — and was targeted by the mumbling madman first. Subway rider Fitim Gjeloshi recalled how he was on the Manhattan-bound N train just before 8:30 a.m. in Brooklyn when he noticed the suspect sitting in the corner, muttering to himself. “I looked at him, and I thought to myself he was talking to himself for like awhile, so I looked at him, and I was like, this guy must be on drugs,” Gjeloshi said outside the 72nd Precinct in Sunset Park after talking to cops Tuesday afternoon. When the train briefly stopped underground after leaving the 59th Street station, the suspect suddenly whipped out a gas mask, Gjeloshi said. “When [the train] was about to hit 36th Street, we stopped for 5 minutes. He takes out a gas mask from one of his little luggage[s],” the witness said. “He opened one of his gas tanks, and he said, ‘Oops, my bad.’ He pulls out an ax, he drops it, he takes a gun out, he starts shooting.” The rider claimed that the suspect shot at him first, but he managed to dodge the bullet and emerge unscathed. “One guy gets shot right next to me. He says, ‘Help! Help’ ” Gjeloshi said. “I tell some person to help him out, cover the blood for him. I jump over, I bang the door and I kicked it with my leg,” Gjeloshi said. The suspect's identity has yet to be revealed, but a New York Police Department official confirmed to Newsweek that a person was in custody hours after a vehicle of interest had been discovered. Shocked witnesses tell how bullets and smoke bombs triggered horror stampede:

Terrified witnesses have told how the shooting triggered a horror stampede - with children trampled on as commuters tried to escape the hail of bullets.

Passengers revealed there was a huge surge towards the exit of the subway cars as people screamed 'gun' and 'bomb' before fleeing for their lives.

Cemile Toseglu, 17, a student at Brooklyn Tech who was on her way to school, said other riders jumped over her in panic while the gunman continued his rampage.

She told DailyMail.com: 'The train carried on to 46th street but then we were told to get on the R train because the N wasn't moving.

'The R was very crowded, the most crowded I've ever seen it and everyone was cramped. On 25th street the train conductor said there would be delays so we were standing still.

'That's when there was like a loud noise and people ran towards me - a large crowd. A woman fell and people just ran over her.

'Someone then scream gun and I ran out of the train, I was near the exit but people were jumping over me to get themselves out too.

'No one really knew what was going on. I didn't see the man because I was closer to the exit in the next carriage. That was definitely the most crowded I've seen the R train.'

Speaking from her home, she added: 'I was most scared about the fact that there were a lot of children on the way to school.' Source

A gunman wearing a gas mask and orange construction vest is on the run in Brooklyn after shooting at least eight people on a packed subway train in Sunset Park during rush hour on Tuesday. Shortly before 8.30am, the gunman is believed to have thrown a smoke bomb into a southbound R train at the 25th Street Station in Brooklyn, and started shooting as the doors of the train closed. Eight people were shot including one who is now in a serious condition but fire department sources say 13 in total were injured. The terrified passengers were then trapped until they reached 36th Street, the next stop along. Video shows them spilling out onto the platform as soon as the doors opened. Some passengers carried wounded victims off the train and lay them on the platform to render aid until help came. Others, fearing for their life, ran away in tears. Multiple undetonated devices were found at the 36th Street station, according to the FDNY, but the NYPD says none are active - all were smoke devices. One witness told The New York Post the gunman - who was described as a '5ft 5 black man weighing 170lbs', fired 'too many rounds to count'. It remains unclear what type of weapon he used. 'I thought he was an MTA worker at first because I was like, I didn’t like pay too much attention. You know? You’ve got the orange on,' the witness said. In CAR, between 170 and 670 “civilian advisors” believed to be Wagner contractors arrived between March and July 2018, some along the border with Sudan. These and other Wagner contractors have trained both CAR government forces and pro-government militias.[8] Wagner provides escort protection to senior officials, including President Touadéra.[9] In related shipping operations, open-source investigators have found Ural 4230 transportation vehicles both in Sudan and CAR, corresponding to sales made to Lobaye Invest and Meroe Gold, two organizations tightly linked with Wagner Group. [10] The CAR example becomes more confusing, though, due to Russia’s involvement on both sides of the country’s internal conflict, as Russia arms both the government and the insurgent Selaka alliance. The latter threatens oil deposits owned by Chinese firms, creating tensions between Russia and China and potentially each state’s PMCs.[11] On the whole, though, Wagner’s involvement in CAR is aimed at supporting Russian political-military interests, including a willingness to butt heads with China.

Wagner Group and Russian PMC activity in Africa generally involve payment through mining concessions, operated by companies such as Lobaye Invest, M Invest/Meroe Gold, and their affiliates. In CAR, Lobaye Invest manages “activities ranging from mining to beauty pageants and the screening of Russian movies.” Three journalists were killed before an attempt to film Wagner contractors at Lobaye Invest-operated gold mines in July 2020.[12] Lobaye gained the gold and diamond mining concessions due to the PMC contract with Touadéra’s government, using PMC contractors as mine guards. Further, Touadéra employs Valery Zakharov as national security advisor, a Russian national with Russian military intelligence ties and Prigozhin financial links.[13] In Sudan, M Invest and Meroe Gold conduct mining operations, which were agreed upon at talks which Putin, Foreign Minister Medvedev, Defense Minister Shoygu, and former President al-Bashir attended.[14] Another Prigozhin company operated as the event’s catering service.[15] PMCs guarding Meroe Gold’s mining operations also attacked local protestors.
