The gunman who unleashed terror on Prague is now suspected of shooting dead a man and his newborn baby in a 'random' attack at a forest near the Czech capital last week, police have revealed.
David Kozak, 24, killed 14 people and injured 25 during a rampage in which he targeted students at his university in downtown Prague, police said, adding that he was shot dead after carrying out the horrific attack.
Kozak murdered his father in the town of Hostoun before heading into the Czech capital where he began randomly shooting people from the balcony of Charles University Arts faculty.
He had a huge arsenal of weapons and ammunition with him, with the country's Interior Minister saying that 'if the police hadn't entered the building in time, the perpetrator wouldn't have been dead on the roof and there would have been a lot more victims.'
In the lead up to his killing spree, Kozak is thought to have kept a diary in Russian on messaging app Telegram, writing in one chilling post: 'I want to do a school shooting and possibly suicide.'
Now it has emerged that police are investigating whether Kozak may have killed a father, 32, and his two-month-old daughter in Klanovice, near Prague. Hundreds of police combed the wooded area after the perpetrator disappeared, and authorities are currently probing whether the two killing sprees could be linked. Source

Seventh Fall 2023 Explosion: Explosion At NYC Con Edison Plant
Fourth Fall Explosion for New York
The New York City Fire Department was forced to save people from elevators across the city and commuters were trapped on the subway after a fault at a Con Edison plant in Brooklyn caused power outages.
Black smoke was seen coming from the power facility in Brooklyn at 11.55pm on Thursday night and a momentary power outage followed with lights flickering for a few seconds.
It plunged the city into chaos temporarily with multiple reports of people trapped in elevators and stuck on the subway for up to 20 minutes. Some motorists also reported blinking traffic lights. Alarming footage showed a security guard at a Wegmans store in Brooklyn being rescued from an elevator by firefighters. At Grand Central station all elevators and escalators were out of service due to the power issue.
Con Edison said the issue was due to a fault on a power line at its facility on John Street in Dumbo. Most electricity is back up and running. Lights were reported flickering in neighborhoods including Lower Manhattan, the Upper East Side, Bed-Stuy, Downtown Brooklyn and Long Island City.
The New York City Fire Department was quickly at the scene and sirens were seen flashing from the Con Edison plant after the failure. New York City Police Department officers were also spotted outside the gates of the facility.
Con Edison told DailyMail.com its crews are investigating the power failure. 'A fault on a high-tension transmission line occurred at a Con Edison substation in Brooklyn at approximately 11:55 pm last night,' a spokesman said.
'Customers may have experienced a dip or surge in power at that time. Crews are investigating and working to make necessary repairs.'
Residents across New York City complained about the brief power cut with most left confused about the outage.

Emergency services are at the scene of a large fire at an industrial estate in south Wales.
South Wales Police said officers were responding to a "serious incident" on Severn Road in Treforest, Pontypridd, and that the roads in the area would remain closed for some time.
Eyewitnesses have reported hearing a "massive explosion".
The Welsh Ambulance Service (WAS) said it had declared a major incident.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said a number of crews have been sent to the area. Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board said all its emergency departments were on high alert due to the "ongoing incident".
"Please help us by not attending A&E unless absolutely necessary," it said. Morriston Hospital in Swansea, which is home to the Welsh Centre for Burns, said it was on high alert, alongside all hospitals in south Wales.
"Avoid Morriston unless you have a v. serious illness or injury," Swansea Bay health board posted to social media. A WAS spokesperson added it had sent 10 emergency ambulances, seven rapid response vehicles and the Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.
Severn Road is home to a number of businesses including a car dealership, a fabrications firm, a pet shop and a gym.
The fire is in 60,000 sq ft (5,574 sq m) warehouse called Rizla House that houses 13 commercial units including a gym, a towel manufacturer, a food laboratory and a telecoms service company.
The manager of a nearby Esso garage, Krishnaraj Nadarajah, said he contacted the fire service and shut off the pumps at the station.
The 40-year-old described hearing a "massive explosion". He said: "It felt like it was an earthquake or something. We went outside and there was a fire starting to build up, it was a huge fire and smoke."
He said the flames were reaching toward the sky. "There was black smoke, but now it is like a white smoke," he added.
"The noise was very loud, it was a big explosion. Some of the things fell down in the store, off the shelves."
Mr Nadarajah called it "very scary".
"Now the roads are closed and we can't go outside," he said.
'Big fireball in the sky'
Phill Jones from Llantrisant said he was driving along the A473 with his eight-year-old son at about 19:15 GMT when he saw "a really loud bang and a flash of light." "My first reaction was 'Who is letting off fireworks on a Wednesday night?'," he said. "There was a big fireball up in the sky. I swerved the car a little bit and my son got quite animated. "The way it went up, it was almost as if something had exploded." Dr Aeliya Zaidi said she was travelling home along the A4119 when traffic began "piling up" and she saw lots of fire engines and ambulances. The 40-year-old said: "There was a huge, huge fire - it looked very, very dramatic like the ones you see in the movies. "There were lots of people on the roads making videos and taking photos." Dr Zaidi, who works at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, added: "Being a doctor, I was just thinking if any human lives are involved. "Any other thing can be managed but of course if there's anybody inside they're somebody's relative and their life is important." The owner of nearby Green Rooms, Jonny Foxhall, said the music venue's front door was flung open. "We could see a smoke cloud and an orange glow from above the treeline quickly followed by flames," the 36-year-old said. "To feel the shockwave from the explosion is something I've never experienced before." Alex Davies-Jones, MP for Pontypridd, said "a serious incident has been declared" and she was expecting an update from the emergency services shortly. "I want to reassure residents that the emergency services are responding to this appropriately snd all protocols are being followed. If anyone has imminent concerns, please call 999." Fifth Fall 2023 Explosion: Small Explosion? Sets Off Partial Building Collapse In Morris Heights, Bronx
Crews searching rubble after partial building collapse in Morris Heights
MORRIS HEIGHTS, Bronx (WABC) -- Police are on the scene after a building partially collapsed in the Bronx on Monday afternoon.
It happened at a six-story occupied building at 1915 Billingsley Terrace around 3:30 p.m.
Citizen App video from the scene shows destruction as the corner of the building appears to have collapsed to the sidewalk down below. All people have been evacuated from the partially collapsed building, which has 47 residential units and six businesses. The search for potential victims is ongoing. FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh appeared live on Eyewitness News.
She said there is still an active search for anybody that may possibly be trapped inside and crews are in recovery mode. Firefighters are using their hands going through the rubble, as well as using drones and robotics, and canine units. Kavanagh says that firefighters are trained for these situations using rubble pile at the academy. Adjacent buildings at 178 and 182 West Burnside Avenue have also been searched with no victims located.
The Department of Buildings is on the scene and will go in after the search to determine the stability of the structure.
Eyewitness News has learned the building had many violations. The Housing Preservation and Development reports 178 violations in the last two years, 103 are still open. According to the Department of Buildings website, there are five open violations, including a construction violation.

Police swoop on Seychelles financial services firm hours after new Pandora Papers probe
Seychelles authorities raided an offshore financial service provider just hours after a new Pandora Papers investigation by ICIJ’s media partners revealed that the firm had exploited a U.K. secrecy loophole and helped front companies used by Vladimir Putin’s inner circle.
Seychelles-based Alpha Consulting was one of 14 offshore services providers whose leaked files made up the Pandora Papers, a trove of 11.9 million documents that were obtained by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and shared with more than 600 reporters around the world.
The November investigation by media outlets Finance Uncovered, the BBC and Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation traced company records and analyzed hundreds of Alpha Consulting documents contained in the Pandora Papers cache to uncover more than 900 U.K.-registered firms set up by nominee directors linked to the Seychelles provider.
Yevgeny Prigozhin, boss of the Wagner Group, who died earlier this year, was reportedly one of those who reportedly benefitted from Alpha’s services. Prigozhin’s company Beratex Group Ltd was sanctioned by the United States in 2019. Source

ISIS has claimed responsibility for a deadly explosion that ripped through a Catholic mass service at a university gym in the southern Philippines on Sunday.
At least four people were killed and dozens of others were injured in the blast at the Mindanao State University in Marawi City, according to authorities.
In a communique, ISIS said its fighters “detonated an explosive device on a large gathering of Christian disbelievers in Marawi City,” according to the SITE Intelligence Group, a counterterrorism threat intelligence organization that tracks the online activity of extremist groups. Photos of the scene showed soldiers and emergency workers standing among debris in the gym. A section of the seating area was blown up, chairs strewn across the floor.
Lanao del Sur province Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr., told reporters more than 40 people were being treated at a government hospital in Marawi, while a number of others with minor injuries were treated at the university’s infirmary following the blast.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. condemned the attack in a post on X, formerly Twitter. Without naming any specific groups or elaborating further, he described the blast as “senseless and most heinous, perpetrated by foreign terrorists.”
“Extremists who wield violence against the innocent will always be regarded as enemies to our society,” he said, adding that additional security personnel had been deployed to assist in the response.
The United States condemned the “horrific terrorist attack” in a government statement.
“The United States is in close contact with our Philippine partners and stands with the people of the Philippines in rejecting this act of violence,” State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said. Source

2 dead after vehicle explodes at Rainbow Bridge border crossing in Niagara Falls, official says
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) — A vehicle speeding toward a U.S.-Canada bridge from the American side crashed and exploded at a checkpoint in Niagara Falls on Wednesday, leaving two people dead and prompting the closing of four border crossings in the area, authorities said.
There was no immediate information on the cause of the incident, but it raised concerns on both sides of the border. The White House said President Joe Biden was “closely following developments," and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said officials were “taking this extraordinarily seriously."
“This is obviously a very serious situation in Niagara Falls,” Trudeau said in Parliament before excusing himself from Question Period in the House of Commons to be briefed further.
The two deceased people were in the vehicle, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press. The official was not authorized to discuss details of the investigation publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Aaron Ferguson, a spokesperson for the city of Niagara Falls, New York, said the vehicle was traveling at high speed from that city and crashed into the border station.
Jim Diodati, the mayor of Niagara Falls, Ontario, told The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that what happened appeared to be “an isolated incident.”
The U.S. FBI’s field office in Buffalo and other agencies were investigating the blast. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul traveled to Buffalo from the state capital, Albany.
The explosion happened on the U.S. side of the Rainbow Bridge, which connects the two countries across the Niagara River. Source

Twentieth Summer Explosion: Romania Explosion At Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Station
Romania explosion: Huge blasts at fuel station kill two and injure dozens
At least two people died and 56 were injured after two blasts at a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) station in Romania.
The injured included 39 firefighters who went to the scene following the first explosion near the capital Bucharest on Saturday evening.
Shortly after, a second blast sent a mushroom cloud billowing into the sky, rocking the forecourt in Crevedia.
Several people are in critical condition with severe burns, authorities said.
The two people who died were a couple, Raed Arafat, the head of Romania's emergency department, told reporters on Sunday.
They sent four people who were injured, including two firefighters, to hospitals abroad and said others would follow.
Two police officers and two gendarmes are among the injured.
Authorities do not yet know what caused the blast. Mr Arafat said the station was no longer in use and "did not have a permit to function", according to quotes reported by the Agence France-Presse news agency.
People within a 700-metre (almost half a mile) radius were initially evacuated from the area, with Mr Arafat warning there was a risk of another explosion.
But by mid-morning, the fires had been contained.
Romania's President Klaus Iohannis described the explosions as a "tragedy" and said he was "profoundly saddened" by what had happened.
"An investigation must quickly be launched to see if rules were broken. I ask the authorities to take urgent measures for the injured so that these tragedies won't happen again," he wrote on Facebook. Source

Yevgeny Prigozhin was on board the private jet that crashed in the Tver region north of Moscow, the Russian aviation authority has said.
Rosaviatsia posted a list of seven passengers and three crew members, who it said were aboard the plane “according to the airline”.
All 10 bodies have been recovered from the site and the search operation has been completed, authorities said.
The private jet crashed en route from Moscow to St. Petersburg, around 60 miles north of the Russian capital.

Caleb Farley: NFL player’s father killed in home explosion
The father of NFL star Caleb Farley was killed in a massive explosion early on Tuesday at the player's North Carolina home, officials said.
First responders found the body of Robert Farley, 61, after searching through the debris of the multimillion-dollar house.
The Tennessee Titans cornerback was not at home at the time of the explosion.
The investigation is focusing on the property's natural gas lines - no foul play is suspected.
Christian Rogers, 25, a family friend who was also at the home, was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to a statement released by Iredell County.
The 6,300 sq ft (585 sq m) lakeside property, in the Charlotte suburb of Mooresville, was reduced to rubble and all vehicles parked outside the home were destroyed.
"There's a lot of devastation," Iredell County director of fire services and emergency management Kent Greene told the Tennessean. "There's nothing left of this structure except a partial wall."
Mr Farley, 24, was spotted on the scene speaking to authorities after the blast on Tuesday morning.
Neighbours told local news outlet Queen City News that they had smelled gas and heard the explosion.
"A loud boom, about five minutes to midnight," said neighbour Clay Wild. "I can't believe it."
Caleb Farley grew up in nearby Maiden, North Carolina, before going to play American football at Virginia Tech. He was later the number 22 overall pick in the 2021 draft.
Titans coach Mike Vrabel gathered the players after practice on Tuesday and they kneeled to pray for Mr Farley.
"What's most important is that we do everything we can to support him emotionally," Mr Vrabel said. "It's shocking. We've got to focus on Caleb and his family, and how we can support him."
In 2018, Mr Farley lost his mother to breast cancer, Sports Illustrated reported.
"I know he lost his mother at a young age as well," his teammate Kevin Byard said.
"He's dealt with a lot of adversity. It's very tragic. It's an unimaginable tragedy." Source

President Luis Abinader visited San Cristobal, located just west of Sango Domingo, to meet with those affected, saying an additional 11 people were missing and that authorities were still trying to extinguish the fire amid collapsed buildings and charred vehicles.

MOSCOW (AP) — A massive explosion at a gas station in Russia’s southern republic of Dagestan killed 35 people and injured scores more, Russian officials said Tuesday.
Russia’s Health Ministry said 115 people were injured in the blast and subsequent fire, and 35 of them died, including three children.
A total of 65 of those injured, including 16 children, remained hospitalized as of midday Tuesday, the ministry said. Eleven people, including two children, were in grave condition. Fifteenth Summer Explosion: Plum Explosion Kills Five
A 38-year-old man and his 12-year-old son are among five people killed in a house explosion in Pennsylvania over the weekend.
The 12 August blast in Plum, a Pittsburgh suburb, left three others injured, including one person in critical condition.
Three other structures in the neighbourhood were destroyed and at least a dozen others damaged.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the explosion.
According to officials in Pennsylvania's Allegheny County, they received an emergency 911 call at about 10:30 (15:30 BST) local time on Saturday. Police and firefighters "arrived on scene and reported that there were people trapped under debris".
"It appeared as if one house had exploded, and two others were engulfed in fire. Multiple other homes were damaged with windows blown out," they said in a Facebook post.
Doorbell camera footage - which has not been independently verified by the BBC - shows a massive explosion sending smoke and debris into the sky above the neighbourhood.
Five bodies were later recovered from the scene.
Officials say it is still unclear who was home and if any visitors were in the area at the time, complicating efforts to identify the dead.
"ID is expected to take some time as it will involve use of dental records, and potentially DNA, for formal identification," Allegheny County said on X, the social media network formerly known as Twitter.
While officials have not publicly named any of the victims, family members identified Casey Clontz, 38, and his son, Keegan, 12, as being among the five killed.
Mr Clontz and his son lived four houses away from the scene of the explosion. It is unclear why they were there, although family members told local news outlet TribLive that they were likely visiting neighbours.
A statement from the Clontz family described Keegan as Casey's "shadow", and the pair often went fishing and hunting together.
"Keegan and Casey were their most happy when they were spending time at the lake with their lake family and friends. They swam, did boating and loved cruising around in their golf cart," the family said.
Keegan was part of a youth football programme and was due to start junior high in a week.
Casey and Jen, his wife of 14 years, also had a 10-year-old daughter, Addie.
Additionally, an online fundraiser has been set up for the Oravitz family, which owned the property where the explosion took place. It is unclear if any members of the family are among the dead.
Crews from at least 18 local fire departments were needed to douse the flames. More than 50 firefighters were treated at the scene for minor issues, primarily heat exhaustion.
Local police and fire officials are investigating the cause of the explosion alongside staff from the local utility company and state public utilities commission.
Officials told CBS, the BBC's US partner, that the probe will be a "slow and long process" that could potentially take months, even years, to complete.
One resident, Rafal Kolankowski, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the explosion shattered windows in his house and knocked him and his wife down.
"It's just tragic, I mean, it looks like a war zone — it looks like a bomb hit our neighborhood and it's just unfortunate," Mr Kolankowski was quoted as saying.
"I was just with some of the neighbors yesterday, right, and now this happens." Source
