UPDATE: Explosion at SW Bakersfield home causes fire that injures 2 people; 1 detained
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — UPDATE: One man has been detained Tuesday evening after an explosion engulfed a southwest Bakersfield home.
Bakersfield fire says Austin Hanner, 18, was detained and had no visible injuries. Two other men were also treated for moderate to major injuries. Both Jay Hanner, 59, and Matthew Hanner, 38, were taken to a local hospital to treat their burns.
Bakersfield fire and police investigators are still investigation the cause of a reported explosion that caused a fire at a home in southwest Bakersfield that injured two people who fled the scene.
City and county firefighters were called to a home in the 11000 block of Privet Place for a reported explosion. Firefighters arrived and found the home engulfed in flames.
As many as 25 firefighters fought back the flames at the home and stopped them from spreading to nearby homes.
Two people with third to second-degree burns were found nearby the home. Police said they fled the scene and are being treated for their injuries before investigators speak with them.
Bakersfield Fire Battalion Chief Matthew Perry said there is no determined cause of the fire and arson and police are investigating.
