Eight people injured in explosion at University of Nevada, Reno dorm

RENO, Nev. – Eight people were injured Friday in an explosion at a University of Nevada, Reno dormitory, authorities say. According to Steve Leighton, operations chief for the Reno Fire Department, six people were treated at the scene. Two were transferred to the hospital, but have been released. There was major damage to the building, Leighton said. University officials are calling the explosion a utilities accident. "There has been a utilities accident on the main campus Police and fire on scene please stay away," UNR sent in a text message to faculty and students. Leighton said a single-engine company initially responded to a fire alarm and a small explosion in the basement of UNR's Argenta Hall at around 1 p.m. "While we we were there investigating it, there was a larger explosion that damaged a large portion of the center of the building." Leighton said. "We're not sure how it happened; possibly some sort of mechanical failure inside the building. Source

UNR, fire and police officials say it's too early to say what caused the explosion in the boiler room of a dorm on Friday, causing significant damage to the building.

UNR’s police chief Todd Renwick described a “long term event ahead of us.”

Key details from Saturday's press conference:
  • The cause of the explosion is under investigation. Maintenance workers who were working on the boiler when it exploded are being interviewed by investigators.
  • Finding housing for students who were planning to stay in Argenta Hall this fall is a top priority for the university. There is no plan yet and it’s unlikely Argenta will be available once the fall semester starts in August.
  • Students who were staying in the dorms have been relocated to Peavine Hall. They are being reunited with their belongings now.
  • About 5 feet of water in the basement of the dorm was pumped out over night.
  • There were no fatalities and only minor injuries. Source

Another day just another gas explosion.....

At least 20 people are injured in a huge gas explosion at a LA Fitness gym inside a Florida shopping mall

Twenty people were injured after a vacant pizza restaurant exploded in a South Florida shopping plaza Saturday, according to police. The explosion happened Saturday morning at the shopping center, west of Fort Lauderdale in Broward County, sending debris flying along a busy road. A triage area has been set up at the scene of the The LA Fitness, where a number of those injured were thought to have been at the time of the blast. 'We thought it was thunder at first, and then we felt the building shake and things started falling. I looked outside and it was almost like the world was ending,' said Alex Carver, who works at a deli across the street from the explosion. 'It was nuts, man. It was crazy.' The explosion demolished the building, leaving behind only part of its metal frame. It blew out the windows of the popular fitness club next door. Source

ISIS Threats Leading Up to July 4 Depict Attacks on New York, White House

ISIS supporters have featured New York and Washington in threat propaganda leading up to the Fourth of July — which is not just our Independence Day, but a key caliphate anniversary — that has also included aviation threats.

One threat image spread online in recent days depicts jihadists watching a fiery plane crash and another from non-official ISIS media channel Maqdisi included the image of a plane in a vow to “soon” attack “the doors of Europe.”

Another image from al-Irbaad Media Foundation shows a U.S. soldier fleeing down a New York street away from the Manhattan Bridge. Al-Irbaad was founded in December, calling on the “knights of media and the lions of information, graphic designers, producers, and writer alike” to join and “intensify their efforts” to wage war from “both a military and a media point of view.” Source
